“cheaper than the Index”
I want to beat Sam Altman to death with my bare hands.
It’s very disappointing that you don’t even get a charging cable for 1k+ 😾
I dunno, I already have a spare from a Steam Deck dock I barely use. Takes $29 off the price.
Kinda. On the other hand, I have so many USB-C chargers by now that it would probably have stayed inside the box anyway.
Exactly this, don’t charge me for something I’m literally not gonna use.
These days, USB C is so ubiquitous, I have so many chargers on so many places, I literally do not want or need more.
Other people are different than me, sure, but I can’t imagine I’m in the minority
I’m not saying either of you are wrong, just, actually make sure they’re all 45W or more.
I have tons of cheap chargers that’ll slow-charge a phone, but I had to go out of my way to find ones that would actually power my Deck, for instance. Else it would drain while charging, albeit slightly more gradually, unless I had it completely powered down.
The prices are about what I expected. Could be worse. What annoys me a little bit is that in addition to being another lottery for an opportunity to buy, you can only choose one model ahead of time. I would probably buy the 1TB model if I couldn’t get the smaller one. But I don’t think I’m going to volunteer for the large model and give up my chance to buy the cheaper one. Might ask my nephew to put in a 1TB reservation…
From the news I heard, the expected price was around $1,500. I was pleasantly surprised.
Same, this is the best I could’ve hoped for considering the current conditions.
Though it saddens me for how cheap it could’ve been if the world didn’t go crazy. Still spendy, but sub 1k would’ve been really nice
It’s inconvenient but understandable considering how vulnerable Valve hardware is to scalping and money laundering right now.
That explains why they have the lottery, but I don’t understand why they don’t have an “any model” list. They did for the Steam Machine.
I fully expected $1600 US, so I’m pretty happy with where they ended up personally
I miss the time when you could just buy things.
Let’s fucking goooo!!!
Here’s me hoping Linux PCVR is sorted out by the time I can get my hands on one.
What’s the issue with it?
Streaming from a Linux PC wasn’t working yet when LTT tested it on August 24th.
Oh shit! That would be a deal breaker for me.
Through Steam? Hmmm…
When you actually receive one — in a acouple of months — it’ll work.
This is strange, this post shows up for me through API access, but won’t show up for me when viewing this community online. There’s a duplicate post from someone else that does show up everywhere, and is getting more upvotes, although this post is actually older.
Not sure what’s going on.
I think it’s because Lemmy tries to merge the posts. When I look on Sopuli, I can initially only see the duplicate post, but when extending it it shows mine as a “cross post”.

Thanks for the heads up!
Tbh, the price is about what I expected as well. Not horribly different from a fully decked out Valve Index when they were new, and theyre including the controllers alongsode the headset this time.
You’d hope it’d have been cheaper due to the lack of external sensors to buy, but inflation and ram/storage prices going up was inevitable. I just hope it’s not DOA from people comparing it to Meta’s (heavily subsidized) options
GamersNexus made it a point to compare privacy policies between them in their review first and foremost, so that’s a start
I’m buying one because giving money to Meta simply isn’t an option in terms of my own principles.
Fuck Mark Zuckerberg.
