On a whim I decided to give the official app a try because a lot of people will be forced to use it, if they decide to stay on Reddit.
Holy hell, it’s just slow. Can’t scroll through a subreddit without annoying hitches and stutters. Comments aren’t any better also.
On the other hand, Sync is just fucking gorgeous and runs immensely better than the encumbered official app.
How can apps made by small teams or even a single person be better optimized than one supposedly made by a larger team with a larger development budget?
Rif is great. I tried the official reddit app on my android 6 tablet back when I first joined reddit. It was slow and clunky. Uninstalled it after less than a week, I think. I later saw a recommendation for rif. It still runs quickly and smoothly on my android 6, whereas the official app doesn’t even show on play store for that device anymore (so I can’t get in my 1 star review).
A rif for lemmy/kbin would be A1.
Screw you, spez.
I started with Baconreader sooo many years ago, but I gave RIF a try when Baconreader was having some issues loading videos, and it just clicked with me.
Both really great apps tbh. I never tried any of the other ones, and I never tried the official app. The screenshots I’ve seen from it made me realize it’s not for me.
