First off, love lemmy.world! So happy to be here & help build something amazing! I started a community called Alternative Nation to share alternative music from the 80s to today. Slowly growing with folks across the #Fediverse here, other lemmy instances, kbin, and mastodon.

However - I’ve noticed that only some of the posts on lemmy.world are making their way to kbin & mastodon. It seems totally hit or miss. So wanted to report it here (it may have been posted, but couldn’t find it). Not complaining, I know it’s early days, but for awareness I wanted to share.

Recent posts on Lemmy.world (newest to oldest):

Depeche Mode (no kbin, no mastodon)

Syd (yes kbin, no mastodon)

Marika Hackman (yes to all)

De La Soul (yes kbin, no mastodon)

Foo Fighters (yes kbin, no mastodon)

Man on Man (no kbin, no mastodon)

The Replacements (no kbin, no mastodon)

Hope this helps!!!

It goes beyond posts, it’s comments as well - I don’t know who is the culprit, but I think it has something to do with API requests to lemmy.world silently failing. I noticed when trying to subscribe from other instances to communities here, it may take up to 5 tries of unsubscribe/subscribe and/or subscribing and waiting for 10 minutes without touching the browser window. When I do the same from other instances to each other (lemm.ee to kbin.social, lemmy.sdf.org to kbin.socal, e.g.) it works instantly. It seems to be when talking to lemmy.world that things… go sour.

Compare the source with comments to 2 remotes with no comments:

(trying to post this reply hung and failed as well, trying again…)

yeah, not sure either. Got good folks on Mastodon I keep encouraging to either come over here or follow there, but it’s been so hit or miss. Not angry or frustrated, I totally understand it’s early days, but hopefully this kink gets worked out soon.

I think, for me, it just makes me pause in engaging heavily if I can’t be certain that the results live up to the promise. What I mean by that is if content “homed” on one instance that is the heart of the given community doesn’t properly replicate to remote instances then our foundation is a bit shaky. I am an avid Destiny player and the community here is attracting the most attention, but unless you participate on this server directly the federated results are random. :-/

Totally fair. Still want to build a community and support the Fediverse growth. Also tagged some mastodon admins about the issue too on mastodon. Hopefully the kinks get ironed out dinner rather than later.
