It’s a neat concept but it costs as much as the console. Does the PS5 even need more cooling? The entire thing is an air exhaust.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I don’t get.

I’ve never had my PS5 run hot or appreciably loud enough to want to spend a console’s worth to cool it down? Which is to say, I’ve never had it do either of those things.

The end of the article pretty much sums it up:

EKWB believes that its QuantumX CoolingStation Monoblock for PS5 promises to enhance the gaming experience by reducing noise, which could distract from gaming sessions.

Pretty much just an aesthetic. If I had fuck you money, I’d definitely build something like this, but otherwise there’s no reason to. The PS4 sounded like a jet engine but I don’t even hear the PS5 over the game on a basic 5.1 setup.

I’m interested to see how it works out, but I’m skeptical about anyone caring enough about fan noise to want this.

I would’ve been interested if they made the whole thing into a case replacement (like the fanless cases we see in mini PCs), mainly because I think the current case is ugly, and it’s odd shape makes it hard to place it in a decent place on my room (right now it’s just standing awkwardly upright on its weird little stand thing, next to my bed - I’m not sure if that stand is supposed to even click in place?).
