Got an ice cream at lizzy’s. Looking good. What are your recommendations for ice cream in boston?

Im only here one more day, but i may try to get there :). Ill update with my findings.

Lizzy’s was pretty yummy. The ice cream was smooth and the flavor good. I didn’t add any toppings. I went to church street and the store was nice but little. They had maybe 15 - 20 flavors. Im told the original store where they make and store the ice cream is much bigger and has more flavors.

scoop n scootery - can be a bit pricey, but I was addicted to it for like 2 weeks

new city microcreamery - some fun and different than usual flavors

taiyaki nyc - “prettiest” looking ice cream, also unique. also the vegan lemon & strawberry is so good

It’s probably out of the way for what people consider ‘Boston’, but Delini Gelato in West Rox is some of the best gelato I’ve EVER had.

The owner uses nothing but real, fresh ingredients, and it’s just incredible. I live close to JP Licks in JP and go out of my way to to Delini instead.

And I really like JP Licks FWIW

JP licks is great but it’s so damn expensive. Got a cone with two scoops the other day and it cost $9. I live a bit out of the city and the same quantity/quality of ice cream at a couple of my local spots is around the $5-6 mark.

I’m a bit biased, but Slush King in East Boston is pretty damn perfect. It’s just an old school takeout window/walk-up. Nothing over the top. Exactly what you need at a reasonable price.

Otherwise, Cabot’s in Newton is the gold standard. It’s what movie set designers imagine when a director says “ice cream parlor”. (I haven’t been since it got new owners though).

Toscanini’s for ‘fancy’ ice cream. Their B3 flavor is a favorite.

“Just ice cream” is chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and a few others with sprinkles, banana/fruit and whipped cream as add ons. The classics.

Toscanini’s does stuff like goat cheese honey with brownie, mai tai, etc. It’s a more complex flavor profile and has prices that reflect that.

        🤷

Maybe I just went on an off day, then, because they didn’t have anything interesting when I was there.

Still, I’m not sure that unusual flavors really make it all that special. It’s not more complex than making any other flavor.
