Nvidia graphics, weird. Looks like a Macbook. Also not a huge fan of Gnome, but still good to see them get some support.
It’s not a gaming laptop. It’s marketed as a productivity laptop - now all the rave is ML and DL so you need cuda.
That thing only has 4GB VRAM, which is kinda useless these days for ML. Even the most basic LLMs and text>image models need at least 6-8GB minimum. I know, there could be other lightweight applications too, but realistically speaking I don’t see anyone buying this laptop for ML/DL needs, even if it’s just a basic requirement.
Hmmm I’m a data scientist and regularly run/train various deep learning models for my job using a 3gb 1060.
Not saying that more than 4gb isn’t necessary for many applications, but it’s far from useless!
What are ML and DL?
The laptop seems a bit expensive and I don’t know how repaireable and upgradeable it is, but it’s good to have some brand engaged with Linux .

Huh. Now that you mention it, all the linux-focused manufacturers seem to be using Nvidia for dedicated graphics. That is so weird.
Yeah, that kinda makes me think this was a rubber-stamp management approval/deal, and not “hardware picked for linux”.

I’ve been seeing this company pop up lately, so I finally checked out their offerings. Do they just routinely announce new, diverse products, only to be never revisited with a new revision? All their AMD laptops seem to be no newer than 2 generations old. Their Intel mini PC has a 5 generation old CPU. Their AMD mini PC has an option between 3 generations old, or a higher end 2 generations old CPU.
Did they hire a bunch of ex-Googlers, or something? Seeing a lack of dedication to their products pretty much immediately erases any intrigue I had.

It is Slimbook Executive 16 with Fedora branding. And that’s good because Executive 16 seems like a great machine.
