Our instance has been around for a while now and had its ups and downs. As a result there are some communities for which the original creators and mods are not active participants anymore.
This is especially true for those moderated solely by @ex_06 who originally started this site but handed it over to me about six months ago due to changed life priorities.
There are also a lot of communities only moderated by me, and as the current sole site admin I would like to distribute the moderation efforts a bit more.
It is not strictly necessary to have an account on slrpnk.net to become a community moderator, as Lemmy supports federated moderation. Thus if you are joining us from an remote instance feel free to apply as well.
So if any of those communities are especially interesting to you, please make a short introduction post in them and I can transfer moderation rights to you. Thanks!
Just chiming in to say, thanks for all you do. Seems like a great place you’ve got here.
If !fixing is about repairing stuff/the right to repair stuff, (or, from the one post, the intersection of tech and solarpunk ideals and how to mix them?) I’m happy to take that, and if you’d like help with !diy, I can join. I’ll make the intro posts there as well.
You can turn !fixing into that if you like. Just mention it in the sidebar text.
I can only make you a mod in communities you have posted something (a comment is sufficient).
Thanks for offering to help out, much appreciated!
Do you have a simple list of all the comms in question?
Not a full list, but you can see the communities moderated by https://slrpnk.net/u/ex_06
maybe an obvious answer but, i see ex_06 still shows as a mod in their communities, even the ones with new management - do all deleted accounts linger like this? like, could there eventually be a list of 5 mods somewhere but only 1 is still around?
This is an annoying Lemmy UI bug where you can’t remove mods from communities they have created but never posted in. I’ll probably remove @ex_06 moderation roles manually from the database at some point if this doesn’t get fixed in Lemmy first (apparently not so easy to fix though).
oh, annoying, least that’s a rare scenario once an instance is fleshed out
I would be up for farming diy and self hosting. Been a reddit mod for 12 yeasrs so pretty familiar and active in those communities and gardening in general. Own a 25 acre farm so everything is related
Still up for adoption:
/c/urbanism/c/art & /c/aesthetic (maybe remove one of these as they are a bit duplicated)/c/clothing/c/midwestsolarpunks (I’ll remove this one soon as it has been abandoned for a while)/c/fiction could also use some mod supportI could probably take urbanism!
Great. I transferred it to you.
Thanks.
I’m still happy to help moderate and wondered if ex_o6 was still around active. I’m happy to help with c/fiction and if that’s still needed and will DM you about any others.
Thanks. I made you mod on /c/fiction
@KeraKali@slrpnk.net volunteered to help with moderating. There was a slight miscommunication and they also made introduction posts in some new & actively moderated communities, so I’ll leave it to the moderators there to decide if they want the help or not.
I want to comment here before doing a post in any of these communities, but I would like to help out with the moderation. Only problem is I have no previous experience and I am still a bit clumsy with Lemmy in general. If I could get some support/assistance on what I’m doing I would be up for it (I think there are som moderator communities in other instances).
No problem just send me a DM if you have any specific questions and there are no stupid questions ;)
In general there is not much to do yet regarding moderation other than making sure the community has a nice avatar and some relevant side-bar text. Posting a bit your self in the communities you moderate is also encouraged.
I can’t easily keep an eye on all of them and abandoned communities require that from me, so I prefer having someone that will do the basic stuff and if unsure use the report function to make me aware.
Thanks a lot for offering to help with that :)
Ok! Then I might go make a post in /c/aesthetic (aesthetics says to me a more general thing than art, and you suggested to delete one. It also has more subscribers :D). If I handle it well and some other communities are still up for adoption, I might consider taking up another one in due time.
And thank you for everything you have done so far so some of us can come to an already fully functional community! :D
Maybe we can also keep both if you are willing to moderate them. The current subscriber numbers don’t say much as this instance has been around for > 1 year and a lot of people have come and gone again already.
It is true that fusing them might get more people together, and thus more activity, but it is kind of sad to have drawings and painting together with rooftop gardens or clothing. I gues I can try keeping them bothe alive and If one does not have any activity in a long time we can reconsider. Also adding the existence of the other in the description might get the posts a bit more organized.
I’ll make a post in both then :)
Sounds good to me. Thanks!
