Apple sent out invites yesterday for a pre-Halloween Mac announcement. The MacBook Pro is believed most likely to get updated at the event, but honestly iMac is likely not out of the question or maybe even MacBook Air. So to avoid buyer’s remorse, maybe wait until after October 30th to buy a new machine.

I bought an “M1 Air” a month ago. People around me advised to wait till October as release of M3 would mean drop in prices of M2. But then I saw articles saying how M3 wouldn’t release until early next year. Was on a budget otherwise I really wanted that slightly bigger screen and magsafe :3

Googling tells me it will likely run under 60 fps, like 30-40 fps. Maybe lowest will be closer to 60, but not sure.

If your return period has lapsed they won’t refund you but they will probably allow you to exchange it against an equivalent M3 machine. Talk to a specialist in store and they can ask a manager. Can’t guarantee this’ll work but so long as it’s an exchange as opposed to a refund they may well make an exception. That’s assuming we even get an update to the MBP line. I think the iMac is a much more likely candidate for an M3 update but who knows.

I mean I played around with a M2 Pro at the store a few weeks ago and it was the fastest computer I’ve ever played around with, at least for opening apps and doing stuff. So you should probably be happy with it for years to come. I’m still using a 2013 MacBook Air, so if they announce something and I jump on it, hopefully I too can get many years out of it.

They can, although you’ll hear plenty of stories about them failing, or people spilling coffee or something on them so they don’t. But a lot of buyers baby their machines, so it’s absolutely possible. Not sure how fast they would be at this point, probably more suited to casual web browsing or streaming services, but they can last awhile.

My mother didn’t really pay a lot of attention to her macbook and it stills works after 9 years (i think).

It’s the only reason I buy them. I’m not a fan of macos or laptops in general, but my 2012 MacBook Air still works even though I’ve moved on.

stupid move, you should have waited 5 years for the M7 chips to come out, they will be much faster than the M2s /s

No new Airs are expected but you never know. You could always find somewhere with a generous return policy in case you need to take it back if new models are announced

Me as well actually. Was going to get m2 air 13" 10 core 512gb for 800 after tax with a deal. I bought it anyways because the retailer does 15 days of return and price match so I get to use it but also price match or return if the Apple event changes anything.

With only a couple days left till’ that event, I’d just wait tbh, unless you got a ‘PULL THE TRIGGER NOW’ deal like I did, in which case, yeah.

Do you think the prices of M2 machines will go down if they launch M3 ?! I’d better wait then. 😀

Maybe? Not sure if it would be right away, but I have seen some decent deals on the older M1 pros lately, so it would make sense.

If M3 Pro were to be released, would you think it’d be worth it trading in my M2 Pro 14” for the M3 Pro 14” base model?? Bought it in late May 🙈

Nah! Depends how much disposable cash you have tbh. The marginal performance increase wouldn’t be worth the hassle and cash loss imo

I ordered the 16 inch m1 max 4tb because it was $1,900 discounted. But I made sure I have a 30 day return window for something like this.

bhphotovideo deal for $2799? This is tempting af tbh, you won’t get M3 machined specced anywhere near that for this money.

I just ordered a refurbished 16 inch M1 Pro MBP. It arrived yesterday an hour before I saw the announcement of the event. But I’m still glad I got it. Way better than the HP I’ve been using.

I just got a 14inch M1 Pro with 32gb RAM for $1500 (1611 post tax), brand new. I really like it so far.

Interesting thing is that I get close to 50% of RAM utilization pretty often. 16GB of RAM is just plain out silly for a macbook in today’s times.

The price went down $800 in 2 years, in 2 years I can just upgrade to an M3 while my M1 can do everything I really want. I don’t see a reason to get a new M3 when a similarly specced MacBook to mine is going to be around $2400.

Utilization doesn’t matter, unused RAM is wasted RAM and macOS will use all available memory to give the user a snappier performance. Only consider more RAM IF you see red memory pressure graph or experience any hickups and slowdowns in your workflow.
