So I have a series 3 42mm and have had it for going on 3ish years? Love the watch but it’s not getting updates anymore and I’m stuck on 8.8 so looking to upgrade. I can either buy series 9 new for full price, or a local acquaintance has a series 7 44mm new in box for $175. From my understanding, the main differences are the temperature sensor and better processor for the 9. Is the big price increase worth it for the 9?
Why an Apple Watch, get a mechanical watch instead…
Kind of an odd question to ask on the Apple Watch subreddit no? To answer your question, I have both, I like the styling of a mechanical watch for when I’m more dressed up, but daily use my Apple Watch is great for me for working out, on the fly notifications, and taking phone calls while I’m at work easily.
You might as well wait for the series 10 to be released now
What phone do you have? If you can’t go higher than iOS 15, the new in box Series 7 is your only choice. Literally yesterday my new in box Series 7 arrived, chosen because I have an iPhone 7 (locked to iOS 15), and the Series 7 shipped with WatchOS 8, the last one that’s compatible with iOS 15 devices.
If you have an Xr or newer, then get the 9 for futureproofing.
iPhone 13 Pro Max so I’ll be covered on that front for awhioe
Yeah that bummed me out. I have an 8+, got a great deal on a barely used Series 7, but it wouldn’t pair to my phone since the watch had been upgraded to watchOS10 and my phone wasn’t compatible with it.
I had an issue with my S7 and the ecg app, couldnt duplicate it on my S4 and AWU2.
I had a Series 3 for several years. Was looking at either a S7 or 9 on the basis that the 7 and 8 are comparable enough that the 7 seems better price-wise. I ended up going for a refurb (through Apple) SS Series 7, because if I’m being honest, that S3 could have kept on trucking for a while longer and so I’m confident the 7 will last me probably as long as I want it to, and the SS/saphire will be a bit more durable than the aluminum S3 I had or the aluminum S9 would have ended up with - a SS S9 would have just been too much. I’ve had it for a month or so, and I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a big upgrade from the 3 in many ways. Anyhow, that’s my 2 cents.
Thank you for that information, just edited post but I just picked up my new to me S8 45mm. I read that the difference was minimal between the S7 and S8 so I was mainly looking at that S7 I mentioned in the post, but the guy was being passive aggressive over me not being able to meet him today during a time that worked for him but didn’t work for me. Ended up finding this S8 and was listed higher but offered $150 ($25 less than what the S7 was going to be) and she accepted. The watch is super clean no scratches at all which shocked me and works amazingly. Definitely happy with my purchase and glad I spent $150 for basically brand new (minus battery wear but whatever on that) compared to $450ish for the same size S9
Check out Apple refurbished store, just got a series 8 45mm for $320. It looks brand new and battery health is 100%.
I would get an Apple Watch Series 9 if I could afford it
If you buy the latest model with the latest chip, your new watch will receive updates for longer.
I have had AW Series 7 and I just got an AW Series 9. The AW S7 is fine if the battery is OK but the S9 will be supported longer and it is nice to have a new battery. I do not notice the better chip in the S9 and I am a male so the temperature sensor does not affect me - it only is important for females and only measures slight changes in temp.
