Last week I pulled the plug on purchasing a refurbished M2 MBP 14" from apple and I am feeling so much buyer’s remorse! I paid 2,799$CAD (~2,000USD) for 12‑Core CPU and 19‑Core GPU, 16GB, 1TB.

I have until Oct 31 to return which is a day after the reveal… but even if they come out with an M3, I wouldn’t have the funds for more than what I already paid.

I’m mostly wondering if I should get an M2 air (16/1tb) for 2,019$CAD or M1pro (16/1tb) for 2,419$CAD

I work in the creative field and I’m also a DJ/Music producer so I’ll run rekordbox, ableton, serato, and some light adobe projects and photography.

Should I return and get the M2 air or did I get the M2 pro for a good price and I should just stick to what I have?

I recently bought a new MBP 14" M1 Max with 64GB, 2TB, 32 core GPU on sale for $2300. It is a beast. I would have spent over 4K for a new M2 with the same specs. The vendor (B&H) even covered shipping and sales tax! The incremental improvements in performance with the M2 or M3 isn’t worth the premium if you ask me. There are great options out there on the older chips.

Same just got the 16 inch 4tb model for 2999. I have a 13 inch m2 air lowest end model I bought for travel a.month ago and that thing is great because they had just changed the body style to match the pro

I’ve got the exact same spec as you in 16’ for 2350 , and even if they release m3 , I’ll still love my machine it’s the fastest I’ve ever owned , Also don’t give too much credit to these rumours they appear every year , putting too much hope only leads to disappointment.don’t go for the air it will be too light if you want bigger screen then maybe get the 16inch

Good to note for the air. It’s been what I’ve been going back and forth on the most. I think the 14" is the best size for me, my partner has a 16" and i think it’s a bit too heavy/bulky for carrying around.

For 2999usd I got the top of the line M1 max macbook pro 4tb storage, 64gb memory. It was $1,900 discounted at bhphotovideo

Not opening it for a but because of the event but I doubt that I would try to buy a new m3 unless a lower end model cheaper than this could blow it out of the water.

I also recently bought the base model 13 inch MacBook air m2. It’s great for a lot of other things and was also on sale so i paid under 1k usd.

I think if you’re into photography the Pro is great with the SD ports. Honestly there’s always going to be a new better machine, the biggest pros in any field reasonably have the same version as you right now.

Can always just be ready to watch the reveal and decide if you’re missing out, otherwise you’re probably good and have a laptop that will last 3+ years through more updates and refreshes.

For your usage case the M2 you got is perfect. The Air will be too lightweight power wise for you. The announcements coming next week aren’t going to make any difference in what you got. You got the perfect MacBook Pro, enjoy it!

I agree, I bought the same spec MBP as OP yesterday, for more money… I don’t have buyers remorse. It’s a great machine - perfectly fits my needs, on top the Liquid Retina display looks amazing. It’s really fast. I guess I can use it at least the next 3 years without any problems.

OP don’t overthink it - there is always something new coming out but as long as your Maschine is working good (and it’s a computer to work with not for gaming and having the best of the best graphics) than it’s totally fine!
