Footage reportedly from the scene shared on local Telegram channels showed rioters chanting “Allahu Akbar” and stopping cars in order to check the documents of passengers to ensure they were not Israeli or Jewish. The Russian state-owned RIA Novosti outlet reported that police officers and the National Guard were present at the scene while the riots took place and that the airport had been closed due to the entry of rioters to the airport.

In Khasavyurt, also located in Dagestan, rioters gathered at a hotel where Israelis who had fled the fighting were reported to be staying, with some of the rioters entering the hotel and only leaving after ensuring that no Israelis were in the hotel.

I love that video because it really shows how casually a lot of people will embrace racism/antisemitism, but I also hate it because Throw the Jew Down the Well is kind of catchy, and is probably going to be stuck in my head now

It’s “Throw the Jew down the well”, but it’s for a good cause. It’s the only way to free the people of Kazakhstan.

After that, the only problem they’ll have left to solve is transport and it taking very very long time, because the country is very big.

I’ve been assured that once that’s all dealt with, they’re going to have a big party.

They’re Russians in imperialist name only.

They are Dagestani, from Dagestan, which is a one of the several subjugated Muslim majority Caucus states within the Russian federation, like Chechnya.

I’m not saying this to draw any ethnic or religious connections, just providing a slight, but important detail to this story.

If we want to be even more proper, they’re Avars, Lezgians, Nogais, Tabasarans, and so forth. Dagestan is a very culturally and linguistically diverse region. Its name means “land of mountains”, which is just about the only trait that all the peoples in the region share.

(also, Cauc-as-us, or Caucasia or even Kavkaz if you prefer. No relation to “caucus”. Sorry if that’s pedantic.)

Jewry in Dagestan has existed for many centuries as well, though post-USSR a majority of Juhuro — the Jews of Azerbaijan and the North Caucasus — have now immigrated to the United States and Israel. We can only assume specifically to escape the economic woes and growing ethno-religious strife that came with the last lowering of the red flag.

I think we can all agree they’re going too far. Actively searching for people to kill is not okay and is shameful, no matter who they are. The bloodlust is just disgusting.

I agree that would be too far, but where do you read that they wanted to kill them? I only read that they want to expel them, which is perfectly understandable.

I support Palestinians and still think what happened in Dagestan is bad. Because people should not generalise and hate people based on their religion, skin colour, etc.

I don’t hate Jews, I just hate what their government is historically and systematically doing with Palestinians inside Israel.

Unfortunately, there would be a huge uptick on racial hatred crimes in lights of this war, and mostly innocent people would be the subject of that violence on both sides, we already heard a couple of stories of settlers killing Palestinians in the West Bank and about the rabbi who got killed, and I find that sad.

        Humanity must prevail!

No. The Israeli-Gazan border has been sealed since October 7th, and the Rafah Crossing has been similarly closed for egress.

But I’m sure if they did, they wouldn’t have a mob waiting for them to land to hunt them down, or raiding a hotel inspecting passports.

Oh, we do not disagree on that.

Don’t mistake condemnation of crime A to be a lack of condemnation of crime B, just because the perps of A and B oppose each other.

Do you also think that Hamas’ strike on 7 October was a fair response to Israeli occupation?

Horrific actions should be condemned, regardless of who commits them or what excuse they give.

Any source of your claim? Because I bonly hear about one party dropping 400+ bombs on one territory and killings hundreds of civilians each day and another party that is causing mostly superficial damage on civilian infrastructure. And don’t get me wrong I find both parties in this conflict in the wrong but your claim of heavy bombardment over Israel is absolutely disconnected from reality.

And guess who cannot escape from Gaza!

Perhaps you should also check the number of civilian casualties on both sides, or let’s ignore men’s casualties, just look at children’s casualties. And then we can talk. You sent me an article about a girl having a cardiac arrest during bombardment, yes, that’s bad, but what’s happening in Gaza is absolutely terrifying and unfathomable: https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2023/10/photos-destruction-gaza/675760/

You seem to value human life depending on the race and ethnicity, for me those are just the same.

Israel has stated its aim is to cause as much damage as possible.

4000 children killed by Israel. I guess someone will be around to blame this on Hamas using human shields.

8,000 a day? Where could they have been storing these hundreds of thousands of rockets in such a small geographical area without Israel knowing about it?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Footage reportedly from the scene shared on local Telegram channels showed rioters chanting “Allahu Akbar” and stopping cars in order to check the documents of passengers to ensure they were not Israeli or Jewish.

The “ChP Dagestan” Telegram channel reported that the riots in Khasavyurt began after “a person resembling an Israeli citizen” was seen walking near the hotel.

The Russian Echo FM radio reported that a resident of Dagestan stated “I went into every room, I checked every person.

Even the most recent Middle East escalation prompted antisemitic statements from Russian ideologists.”

The Coordination Center for Muslims of the North Caucasus condemned the riots, stating on Saturday “In recent days, we have been faced with provocations of destructive forces who, purely for personal selfish interests, in order to incite interfaith hatred in the North Caucasus, are trying to call on Muslims to take to the streets against all Jews, including Jewish citizens of the Russian Federation who have been living peacefully on our territory for centuries, who have nothing to do with the genocide of Palestinians by Israel, the United States, and their minions.”

The center stressed that the violence “is contrary to the spirit of the Islamic religion and the traditions of the peoples of the North Caucasus.
