Apple has given us Atmos through streaming, but that is a compressed version of what UHD BluRay provides. Apps like Infuse give users option to play our BluRay collection on AppleTV, which is great - However, AppleTV will not decode lossless Atmos TrueHD or DTS-X like Android and Xbox streaming devices. Blu-ray player Audio and Video quality is possible if Apple would give us the option, I would happily stay in AppleTV ecosystem for all my video consumption - and gladly upgrade my TVOS devices for this option - if you feel the same Infuse has started a change.org petition for Atmos TrueHD - https://chng.it/56SMZ2gSvf
Beyond them wanting to or not, supposedly the way the audio dips but doesnt pause, when triggering Siri is a real blocker for some reason on passthrough
Am I right in thinking the new Fire Stick, when using Kodi, now passes everything through, including Atmos and DTS:X?
Apple has zero incentive to do this unfortunately.
It’s never going to happen…I’ve come to terms with this and purchased a zidoo box for the sole purpose of watching my blu ray rips. I purchased my first Apple TV 3 years ago and it’s always the same thing with people wanting passthrough capabilities. Apple does not want us to have it and that’s the way it is. Regardless of a petition. The purpose of the Apple TV is streaming purchased content and if we can stream our own at its full capacity then they lose money on rentals and purchased content.

Ew, thanks for this info, almost purchased the 3rd gen. I will stick with my Zidoo then.
In 2023 Amazon fire cube gen 3 is more preferable compared to nvidia shield pro.
I must admit the latest Apple TV has a much better decoder to pcm compared to older model,
Totally wrong. The apple tv does decode (with the help of plex or infuse, etc.) lossless codecs and output them as PCM.
What you want is a device that does not decode them and passes the lossless digital audio to a receiver which decodes them :)

True, but it wont pass along the Atmos metadata. Therefore, you´ll get Dolby True HD without any quality loss (as multichannel PCM), but lose Atmos in the process.
I know, that’s my point in saying it must pass the HD audio through to the receiver to decode. Then you’ll get all the goodies. :)
People keep asking for this and it just isn’t going to happen. Apple isn’t going to make the best pirate box on the market.
