I downloaded Dave the Diver from fitgirl the other day and have decided I want to buy it from steam. Is it as simple as copying the save folder/file? I looked it up, the only thing I found was someone currupting both versions of the game. I really don’t want to lose my progress, I’ve already played for around 10 hours.

I haven’t tried it (I don’t know that game), but maybe your files get corrupted if game version is different, make a backup of your save and take a look where they are being stored for the original game and then try to copy it there, I tried it for some games and it worked, but it didn’t for some others.
I guess the answer here is: “it depends, just try it”.
