Disney+ in the Philippines considers screen mirroring as screen recording?
Disney+ thought my Logitech wireless gaming headphones (they come with a USB dongle to plug in wherever) was a screen recording device. Idiots
It works on my Samsung Dex, perhaps this is an iOS issue
My guess is streaming services don’t like screen mirroring, which is what Apple does with iOS. A solution for iOS would be to introduce screen extending with iOS like Samsung does with Dex, so it’s not simply mirroring the screen anymore.
Most apps don’t allow recording.
Some apps don’t allow mirroring (Netflix ok with HDMI mirroring last time I used it 2 years back but some others nope)
Some apps don’t allow mirroring via AirPlay (Netflix says nah)
Some apps don’t allow or support AirPlay handoff (Netflix says nah use the app on the TV and cast instead, but Paramount for example hands off and plays in TV native player)
Even on macOS some apps refuse to show if the screen is mirrored without HDCP link.
Thing is with the max or plus sized phones, if you’re sat at a distance to the TV screen; your phone if you hold it up is probably a larger display from your perspective anyway. But not ideal when sharing the screen.
So we have 2 solutions in this house; one is the Apple TV box and we have that logged in to the apps. The other is MacBook Air for on the go. And granted neither of those are as nice as a portable USB-C display for an iPhone. But since I needed the MacBook for coding I now have it on hand
“we are having trouble playing this video right now”
no they’re not, they’ve simply chosen to not play it
It’s like those scammers who claim to have an emergency unless you send over money because their heart can’t handle the stress
I am actually able to pull this stuff off by using a USB-C docking station with an hdmi port, but not a direct connection to the screen.
Not sure if that’s well known, but my fiancé and I have our parents Netflix account which works flawlessly thru my phone using this method.
DHCP protection
Probably. Have you tried with other devices? Screen mirroring is at its base definition, grabs your phone’s screen data and relaying it to the TV ergo, screen recording for TV to use it.
Is there a bypass for this?
Chromecast is an option
I could have sworn that there were sketchy methods or cables that could spoof an HDCP single in cases such as this.
I may be misremembering that though or it was from a time before the standard was fully developed.
There are HDCP strippers but they are hard to come across, there are also other extractors that just so happen to work as HDCP strippers.
Most even block mirroring!!! Super stupid!
I’ve mostly stopped watching streaming content because of how inconvenient and inconsistent they’ve made things.
Chucked my tv. Reading books instead.
Occasionally watch a movie on my iPad.
I’d consider doing that if I had a longer attention span. Now, I can’t even read books the way I used to without getting sleepy.
Yup. DVDs from the library. I love movies and tv but books are the things that really change my perspective
To be fair - it’s part of the reason we watched TV back in the 90’s is that everyone was watching the same shows on network TV.
These days, we’ve all splintered with some exceptions. We used to talk about our favorite part of each week’s episode. Now we tell people we caught a series, and it was good.
Piracy opens their arms.
Nearly impossible to make screen cap memes of shows with these new streaming apps.
Right?! Which you’d think they’d want so people are talking about their show/movie. Like alright I guess I’m just going to forget this existed instead of making a meme from it and sharing
Just go to streaming - it’s so easily accessible now, UIs can be made to look good too with a bit of effort.
Too many content providers, inconvinent access and increasing costs - not worth doing it legit anymore.
My lifetime plex pass is paying dividends
A sub $20 android box will host all streaming services with zero inconvenience
Is this down to a mobile-only subscription issue? Not tried this with Disney+ as I have it on my Firestick anyway but another service I had a mobile subscription for wouldn’t allow me to mirror to another monitor, I assume to force you to pay for the full subscription.
I had no Internet yesterday (still no today), but si have saved some movies in the Disney+ in the iPad, same deal. I could get the audio on the TV, and the movie on the iPad
They really need to force a correction into an update, for this. Screen mirroring is NOT screen recording. All we’re trying to do is watch the thing on another screen.
the app can’t tell the difference between your TV and some $15 capture card from amazon that’s recording the entire film connected through the same adapter
This is why Disney should pay their Product designers competitively.or at least hire good ones
Your lack of understanding of digital media and copy protection is your source of disappointment.
The fire sticks and chromecasts devices exist cuz the money paid to allow them to operate. Get one.
Just use vpn no brainer.
