I’m on 9.6.3 on my SE (latest) and I’m so terrified of what everyone is saying about terrible battery life on the new OS. I’m perfectly happy on it, and I don’t see any of the (few) new “features” are worth it. Any thoughts?
That’s old news. People don’t complain when battery life is fixed with the new 10.1.1 update. It’s worth upgrading.
If you pay attention to their comments, their complaints about battery life end after the watch finishes doing post-upgrade background tasks, about 48 hours after upgrading.
There are also multiple very serious security flaws also patched with the new WatchOS, including some that allow hackers to get into your watch without you doing anything.
Generally fighting against the march and changes of technology is a dead cause. Eventually you will want/need to upgrade. I think that is better to accept that changes sooner than later.
I was one of those that had issues, but it was an issue between the OS and a third party app. Removing that app fixed it temporarily and the new update has resolved it from the OS level. During this Apple Support helped me out with no issues at all.
I mean, yes, feel free to remain on a back level of the OS “just in case”, but any OS update could cause issues. Wait a little while before updating to make sure there’s nothing too hideous and then do it. Otherwise, you’ll get yourself in a mindset where you never update anything “just in case”.
Wish I stayed on 9. Do not update to 10 if possible. Its a hot mess
I’m attempting the same as well, at least for as long as I can. I really enjoy 9 and the design and usability of lots of things. (User since WatchOS4)
However I’m getting my 14 pro replaced through Apple care soon and I’m worried it will force me to update, as it typically does when you re-pair. I’m going to research whether there’s a difference as far as an iCloud restore vs iPhone to iPhone transfer in regard to it forcing a watch update.
It wont once you transfer from Iphone to Iphone, I Just got the Iphone 15 and I am still on watchOS 9 no update needed for the watch.
I prefer 10. Watch a bunch of reviews and make your choice.
I’ve had no issues with watchOS 10 short of needing an extra reboot after initially flashing it to fix the battery issue at the time. Overall, I think it’s a great upgrade, but YMMV.
Battery life is fine here, but the OS chances are terrible. If I had knew this before I had stayed on WatchOS 9 as well.
I’ve hated the update so much that I’ve stopped wearing my watch. I hope you can stay on 9 as long as you can
The new WatchOS update that came out the other day has very much improved my battery life, pretty much back to where it was before I upgraded to 10.0.
It’s worth the update.
I have not had any issues on 10. Battery has been great on my Series 6. I also think the new changes have been awesome. I run with a way less cluttered watch face and love the Smart Stack much better. I like the use of the second button for control centre. It just makes more sense to me. Sometimes people have trouble with change even when it’s for the better.
Wait at least some months after a release, be it major (e.g. 10) or minor (e.g. 10.1 or even 10.0.2). If it is still not up to your standards, wait some more and repeat until either the problems are fixed or the apps are no longer supported or battery dies.
Don’t listen to the doomsayers saying you need security patches or the people who keep regurgitanting shit like “apps seems snappier”, “it’s just indexing, give it time”, “it’s fine on my watch”. Both the new iOS and WatchOS are pathetic messes from a trillion dollar company.
I’m someone with a recently bought used Series 7 on 9.6.2 and 85% battery health. The watch is on my wrist 23.5 hours per day and uses only 45% battery (~2% drain per hour on average basically). And I pretend to keep it that way so there’s no reason to update.
I like 10 much more than 9. really like the button for the control panel, makes a lot of sense in use. i use the flashlight a lot, change focus & silence pretty frequently. if you have an ultra, the new modular face is great. i almost never change faces but it’s still pretty easy. just press & hold for a second. the stacks feature is a bit overrated at the moment.
battery life is = 9, for me at leastto be honest, i’m surprised by all the hate. not that big of a deal really.
Maybe you should be thinking about other things and maybe therapy.
