There needs to be a major update to Siri, it can barley do anything

It’s crazy how Siri went from the best to not even worth using outside of asking for the time or to call someone. The answer for like 90% of what I ask is “here’s what I found on the web” I COULD HAVE DONE THAT MYSELF.

They’ll probably upgrade siri with more modern AI next year. They must do it if they don’t want to stay behind the competition.

Siri is on the back-burner. I am positive that they have a modernized Siri utilizing machine learning/AI that will come out in the next few years that blows it out of the water.

Hoping that’s a massive feature of iOS 18. Would improve the phone’s built in assistant as well as the HomeKit setup. Have to wait for WWDC

The OPs complaint seems to have stemmed from Siris inability to discern what time they wanted from their somewhat vague request and responded with a helpful prompt to be more specific their request so they can get the answer they wanted.

Could Siri have used some personal information about the requestor to give a more accurate answer, first time? Probably.

Would being able to use personal information about a requestor in order to complete a request be considered a privacy concern, hence something Apple has consciously avoided doing? Also, probably.

I’ll admit that Siri does have a lot of room for improvement if it’s to complete with other voice assistants but to do that it would have to compromise on some of the privacy principles that underpin a lot of Apple’s software development.

So there are bound to be some trade-offs when using a privacy-focussed voice assistant vs the alternatives. Personally, I’ll happily accept the trade-offs. But not everyone here is going to feel the same way. 🤷‍♂️

Which probably goes some way to explain why Siri does a good job of controlling a home but not a lot else. 😅

        That’s your subjective opinion.

Siri does 95% percent of what we need it to in our house, all without being spied on or marketed to.

My siri works fine. Like the person above commented why not just ask what time is it in NY. For instance if I wanted to know the time for pacific time, I would just say "Siri what time is it in LA or some western city.

Does anyone know exactly why Siri has gotten so much worse over the years? Is it just Apple losing access to patents for her tech?

Siri is awful. Or if you ask her a question “you need to unlock your iPhone first”. She needs to get on the same level as Alexa! Alexa isn’t great, but she’s a heck of a lot better than Siri.

Still… Tim Cook says he is going to invest in AI I’m a responsive way… Knowing apple… Siri is going to improve it… like in iOS 3000…

It’s just so damn inconsistent. Sometimes it’ll work sometimes it won’t and you’ll ask it the same exact thing.

This is the one I hate; “Siri, find me chiropractors nearby.” “Okay, the closest is Blahblahblah. I can call, or give you directions. Which would you like?” “Call.” “Who do you want to call?”

Every “siri is awful” post is some weird as question phrased in a way no human would ever say it.

Absolutely, and totally agree. I just switched to iPhone from android and I find Siri’s capabilities surprisingly low both in returning the results or should I say correct results and understanding the requests in the first place
