Hi, I’m a 30F who never really spends on myself at all and I’ve never had any gadgets besides my phone ever. My Mamaw is asking for a big gift idea and she spends up to $400. I thought now was the time to get an Apple Watch I’ve always wanted! I’d like to go with an older model that is MUCH more affordable (maybe like the $200 range?) but I know Apple starts messing up their older products. So any advice on a model to go with that will be reliable for several more years yet not break the bank, a sweet spot so to say? I don’t need anything super fancy just one that does the job, thanks!

I bought a 6 a couple months back and don’t regret it. I will say getting a 7 gets you a keyboard. I use the mic for inputting words instead of a keyboard, so no big deal to me. Plus I downloaded a keyboard for it, so, the 6 is just fine for me. The SE 2nd gen doesn’t have the same features of the 6/7/8…. I’d look at the specs and see if that works for you.

I had the 0, 3, 4, and 8. The 0 -> 3 was no difference 4 had a bigger screen, 8 had a tiny bigger screen but I was fine with the 4. Get the SE.

I’d get the SE, unless you know the lack of always-on display is a deal-breaker. For people who have always worn classic watches, being able to always see the time is a basic feature. If you don’t normally wear watches and are fine with having to do a gesture or tap to see the time, get the SE, otherwise get an older series something (7? 8?).

I hear you!! Some people like “always on”. For me … don’t need my watch to be on when I’m not looking at it. Mine set at “wake on wrist raise”. Always on dramatically reduces battery life on my AW6 SS.

The screen never turns on when I raised my hand. But it did flash on and off while I steered my car, so in theory it does work. I’m now keeping it always on :D

It works fine for me when I do a big “oh look at the time” or “hurry up buddy” motion but when I actually just want to check time or something it’s usually a subtle flick and that doesn’t trigger it at all. So always on is a must for me.

My partner is still using a 3 so don’t worry about older ones being “messed up”

Christmas joke (NSFW) A 17 year old male walks into a drug store. He says “I’ve been invited to Christmas dinner at my new girlfriend’s house. Afterwards I hope there is a chance I get lucky, you know what I mean”

Clerk: “How about condoms then? They could come in handy. Here’s a pack.” The young man after paying walks to the door, stops, smiles, comes back: “you know what, the mom is also smoking hot, I think I’ll take another pack, just in case I get extra lucky.”

Christmas eve comes around, the boy sits at the dinner table and doesn’t say a word. After a while his girlfriend says: “if I had known you were so quiet, I wouldn’t have invited you.” the young man replies “if you had told me your dad works at a drug store, I wouldn’t have come.”

I have a second generation SE myself and before that one came out I was always looking at a second hand Series 5 or a first generation SE.

I don’t think you can go wrong with a Series 5 or higher. Only thing I would add to that is that the first generation SE doesn’t seem worth it since the second generation SE

The first generation is basically a worse Series 5 with it having pretty much the same specs but without always on display and without ECG.

Hope this somewhat helps and guys please, please correct me if I say something wrong here. This is very much based on what I know and my own opinion

Series 7 is my go to, you get the nicer looking screen design and major features but for quite a bit cheaper even if you’re not doing used

Look into feature differences. But what I don’t see anyone saying is maybe get a used one with WatchOS 9. The new v10 is a shitshow

Series 6 is perfect imo. Most of the feature are also available on newer model, you still have the same processor performance as the Series 8

Target and Costco have great deals on the 8. Target also had a sale on the 9 I believe

Here’s a better question: can the older versions run the Snoopy watch face? I think at some point, they all “work” but you miss a lot of the newer faces.
