I feel like their thinking is “oh you can’t hear it? Get an Apple Watch for £399 that vibrates on your wrist so you never miss a notification”

The real problem is when you have a mag safe charger and you connect the iPhone, it plays a really loud sound that you cannot change.

I feel like it’s been quiet for a while. When I got my 13 Pro Max two years ago it’s the first thing I noticed compared to my 6s Plus.

That seems like horrible for hearing impaired people or anyone who is in a busy noisy environment. Why can’t it be a setting

    Get an Apple Watch.

Obviously a bit tongue in cheek as not everyone can afford it, but my phone hasn’t made a sound for 7 years and I love it so much.

Also, my colleagues phone blares out We are the Champions EVERU FUCKING TIME it rings and it fucks me off no end, so I think alerts can be selfish AF (whilst I appreciate that people are more concerned re dings than ring tones here)

Well, I have a bad news for you, they broke the notification on the Apple Watch with iOS17.

You used to get notifications / wake up alarm only on your watch if it was unlocked.

Now even if my watch is unlocked and on my wrist and my phone is locked, my phone will get the notification and 5 seconds later my watch will get the same. It’s annoying af.

They also did something to the notification/vibration with the latest watchOS version because both my medication reminder and my wake up alarm on my watch no longer wake me up, the vibration is much more attenuated than before. Maybe it’s a ultra 2 defect?

I got an Apple Watch just for my fitness tracking and actually I found it bizarre that you can’t just turn off all notifications, you have to toggle them off by every app individually! I don’t want my wrist buzzing all day, I want less distractions not more.

A $40 Mi Band will do the same. I have one to track my sleep (it works better than my Apple Watch) and it was my daily watch for many years.

That’s the one thing Apple still struggles with in iOS, is customization of the small things like notification sounds, they’ll make random changes on their end, but nothing that the users can accept or even revert back on.

Idk why they didn’t lean into customisation more, people went wild for jail breaking their phones just for that. I’d be willing to bet they’d make a pretty petty with cheap options to purchase the same as ring tones and such

What? I’ve had custom ring and message sounds for years. It’s been so long I honestly don’t remember how I did it though. Had to convert to a specific format in iTunes etc, so while not super intuitive, it’s absolutely doable

customization of the small things like notification sounds

Or even customisation of notification persistence on a per-mailbox basis in the Mail app. I only want persistent notifications for my work email, not my personal ones.

The lockscreen torch/camera buttons are still the best example of limited customisation though

I’m just pissed that since updating to 17 the Ringtones alerts etc. all start at the Volume you decided (lets say 100%) and after 2-3 seconds it goes down to like 20-30%.

The associated haptic vibration is also weaker, and harder to feel.

every time anyone posts anything to do with sounds the Mute Mode Supremacy crowd always come out in force to smugly post about their silence. Good for you guys, make your choices, but idk maybe read the articles you’re commenting on.

      Y’all feel vibrations? Lol.

I thought I was hallucinating, the vibrations are definitely shorter than before. Only SMS/iMessage had the short vibration before, now all notifications are the same length and it isn’t changeable.

I have no problem hearing the new sound. I think it’s a much bigger deal that you can no longer choose ringtones for alert sounds or alert sounds for ringtones.

The biggest deal, at least for me, is that you can’t have a “vibration only” alarm without having vibration enabled everywhere.

Imagine having your phone make noise in 2023.

I figure if I ever want to be beeped at all day, I’ll get a pager. They still sell those all over.
