Hi all! I am currently living away thus can’t monitor my parents health levels properly. Being my father a heart pt, I am thinking of getting an apple watch for him so that I can get the abnormal heart rhythm, rate, falls, unsteady gait… notifications. Basically if anything is out of order, I may get an instant message, like that.

Now, my father uses a galaxy phone and very much like it. It has come to my attention that if you set up the apple watch for a family member without an iPhone owning, I might not get some of the said features/ notifications.

I just want to know, is that true? Does anyone have such experience? What did you guys do?

Many thanks!

The following features and apps are not available on an Apple Watch with Family Setup: Medications, respiratory rate, irregular heart rhythm notifications, ECG, AFib History, Sleep, Wrist Temperature, Blood Oxygen, Walking Steadiness, Audiobooks, Remote, News, Shortcuts, and the double tap gesture.

Unless he has a few specific problems, the Apple Watch won’t actually send alerts. And maybe it’s my configuration but the instant alerts are on the watch only, not the phone. And never on the phone unless the phone is in Bluetooth range. Ask your dad’s doctor what is available for his specific condition(s) in your dad’s geographic area.
