One game I do not even know the title of. My brother used to play it when I was 6 years old. I remember the game being monochrome, not sure about the crt itself. But it was a kind of XCOM if I’d have to describe it, about some crew that lands on an underwater planet. It’s still my white whale coz I still have not found even the name . I tried chatgpting suggestions recently to no avail.
Are you sure it’s not XCOM terror of the deep?
Our monitor at the time must have been monochrome then, damn!! The ship with the units inside def makes me think this is the one. Playing it soon!! Thanks so much!
Very welcome! You saying it was XCOMesque that i was like “it’s gotta be that!” Glad to be of some help!
Nice work!
Thank you!
Was hoping we could help some people! Maybe I’ll do a monthly since the community is still small here on Lemmy
Beautiful idea! I’d be down!
Please @cuchilloc, let us know if this is it!
I think it is !
I love a happy ending 🥲
Second this as that’s literally the premise
This of a perfect Tip of My… type of question. Maybe we start an instance here! Pride of XCOM 2 I’m not too familiar with other franchises. What year?
Looks like we’ve cracked it. Terrors of the deep ftw!
It’s not a white whale, it’s a Holy Grail. The white whale is something that occupies your every waking moment and you wish to eliminate so you can get on with your life.
It could a white whale for some, but good distinction
This.
Having an apartment, and a job at the same time.
I’m 40. I’ve almost achieved it.
Hell yeah! You got this
Put in the apartment application tonight. My credit’s better than it’s ever been, I have more cash on hand than I’ve ever had before, I even have money to pay movers this time. I don’t want to jinx it so I’m gonna expect obstacles still, but it’s looking good.
AND I got approved. Holy shit I’m so excited.
You have no idea how dead one’s dating life becomes when they are 40 and have no place of their own. But mostly I’m looking forward to whatever untold levels of mental health await me when I get alone time every day, and don’t have to worry about the rent.
I’ve had apartments before … and I was always late on the rent.
I had a really high-paying job once … but I was moving from couch to couch because it was so high stress I couldn’t navigate finding a place, and I lived paycheck to paycheck, and that went on a year and a half and then they fired me. I might have been able to make it if I’d had an apartment, could truly rest each night.
Now, it’s all coming together:
The apartment
The job
AT THE SAME TIMEHoly shit I have never been stable in my entire life.
For my mother money was chaos. She worked for herself. It was boom and bust. We’d splurge. We’d scrape. We’d go without when money didn’t come in. She saved nothing. Ever. My grandfather died and the family decided to sell his land to a suburb developer. She got $35k. The money was gone in a flash, as was my grandfather’s beautiful land.
My model of success in life was “be brilliant, get discovered, rocket to the stars”. I saw the world as chutes and ladders: lucky breaks catapulting me into new social strata. I went to a fancy college, took out loans.
After I got out I quit my first full time job. Too boring. Moved into a techie frat house. Started writing code. Worked freelance because I wanted to be free.
My friends and peers got jobs. Took vacations. Had their evenings free. I was a businessman! with no boss! I was free!. But I was always broke. Occasionally I’d get a big contract.
But I didn’t follow through. I cut corners. I smoked weed like a chimney, and procrastinated my work. I worked super short days. I’d go to a coffee shop, open the computer, code for an hour, decide “eh I’ll get cracking tomorrow” and then I’d leave.
I constantly drank coffee, thinking it would motivate me. I had no idea that anxiety was a bigger problem than any “lack of motivation” I had. So I’d sit there and drink coffee and eat simple carbs and get into a miserable state.
But I was that glitzy, glamorous figure: the dude with the computer making bank in hourly. I kept cranking my rates up.
My zen teacher said to me, repeatedly, “I think a good move for you would be to just get a full time job”. I ignored his advice.
Then in 2017 I got my hands on some acid, and microdosed for a while. I suddenly realized: all my financial problems come from the irregularity of my income. The acid blew my mind with a new realization: I’m getting old and this working-for-myself shit isn’t working. (Thanks LSD!)
Anyway, it’s been a long hard road and I now make almost nothing compared to when I made senior software dev money, yet my finances are healthier.
I could go on and on. Thank you for your encouragement!
Hi-Res scans of paintings and photographs. Like starry night from van gogh:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/Van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg
Would love a library of photos from Feininger or Salgado, paintings etc.
I would love a private tracker for art digitalizations.
Many museums are now offering hi res versions of many of their collections. Hopefully the collections or pieces you’re after are in the works

This is a neat idea I hadn’t thought of.
Kind of shameful but there is this one porn movie I used to have on a CDR that got lost between apartments. It’s stupid cause it’s #17 of a 20+ series and you can find #16 and #18 in like 2 minutes, but this one has disappeared from the face of the internet. The studio stopped listing it some time ago then they were bought out and the new owners never listed that one. Believe it or not I literally sent an email to the male star of the movie, but he never responded. There goes my holy grail. It must have gone out of stock and maybe the masters got lost or something. I know one rip was made at some point cause I found a filename in a listing, but it is long lost. Farewell lost porn 🙋♂️ farewell…
No shame dude! Maybe write the production company if they’re still around. Feel free to share the name or an embedded link to an info page. Never know if someone can help.
Actually i found a phone number to the new studio so i might just give them a ring and ask about !
It’s a French series called “Sacrées Coquines”, volume 17 :D i doubt anybody’s heard of it
A complete collection of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, including the first few years that nobody thought to record. The LLS Archive channel on YouTube is the most comprehensive source available but there’s still huge gaps of missing episodes. Rumor has it there’s one guy out there who recorded every episode on VHS but is refusing to digitize them.
As awesome as he is I’m surprised if nobody has tried to ask Craig for them lol. I think he’d actually go for it for posterity. No show like his, RIP Grant
I would love to have a complete collection like that!
I would love it too!
The entire series of Inside the Actors Studio.
Agreed. Between this, a full archive of Austin City Limits, Graham Norton and Later… with Jools Holland I’m right there with you. Live and intimate long form programs are few and far between.
I would love this too
A remix version of Dragostea Din Tei, aka the Numa Numa, where the artist faded in part of the song a couple of times in a really interesting manner. I found it on limewire back in the mid 2000s and lost it in a reformat. Haven’t found it since.
Dang i would LOVE to hear this
Was it one of the B sides? DJ Ross RMX or Unu’ in the Dub Mix
I just listened to both and it wasn’t either of them sadly. This one faded in the “Vrei sa pleci dar nu mă, nu mă iei” on repeat, starting at a volume so low that you question whether or not you actually hear it the first time and it gets louder with each repeat. I feel like it repeats 4 or 5 times before the song continues.
Insomniac with Dave Atell. I loved that show on Comedy Central, but it was never put on dvd that I could find. I’ve never found a good torrent of it either.
Damn, I miss that show.
Season 1-4 and all the extra ones on slsk.
Great show. Def his prime. Skanks for the Memories got lots of listens over the years.
Similar vein, “Dave’s Old Porn”. I’ve found seeds for s few episodes, but never have tracked down the full set.
And now I must go searching! I only had known of the “insomniacs tour” special on comedy central with Dave attel, Dane cook, and a few other comedians who escape me now but completely forgot about the actual show.
Wish me luck hopefully I will have good news to share!
I posted above but since you likely won’t be back until your search is complete I’ll reply to you too.
Insomniac is all up on slsk, (and put some respek on Greg Giraldo’s name! Lol)
RIP GREG. His albums still get lots of play.
GAH I FUCKING KNEW IIIT! his face was plastered in the center of my mind but i couldnt remeber his name for the life of meeee! RIP 😭
Lol I know the feeling, I’m shit with names. I had to google the spelling myself for the joke haha, I always put an “h” in there. RIP for sure, he was one of the best, gone way too young.
Completely off topic but fuck it shoot your shot.
Where’s a reliable place for finding stand up? Or even just stand up discoveryl? I struggle to find several specials from the pre Netflix era or and for new stuff I’ve only found 800 lb gorilla or I’m ripping from YouTube.
There used to be some opendirectory posts that had some weirdly unsecured files if complete stand ups. You’d have to chip them down for tracks and metadata but it was a fair amount of 80s - 90s albums.
Honestly, I’d try slsk (through the program
nicotine+
ideally). There’s shit up there that I’m straight up surprised to find quite often, just make sure to put like 1,000 files (can be almost anything, fr) in your share folder before you begin downloading or the bots will get ya, and hope that the only copy isn’t from some cocksucker that [Private]s all his files for trades like a true scumbag (also, if you see those people, ban them from your files. However If they just mark [Private] and don’t specify trades, they may just add you if you PM them and are sharing stuff yourself, those guys are ok). I also put my downloads folder in my share folder to just automatically re-share everything I get until I need to clear space (unless I choose not to reshare a file and I save it somewhere else of course). You can also set a wishlist in case someone with a file matching your description comes online at a later date if you can’t find it right then.If you’re looking for a few specific ones I can check a couple to see if they’re up there real quick, no problem.
Wow haven’t heard of nicotine+ or slsk before. Is that P2P ala soulseek? I’ll definitely have to check it out.
Will probably happen later rather than sooner, ever since RARBG peaced out I’ve been slowly working on installing the arrs for my server and importing my libraries. And that is already taking a significant amount of my free time lol.
Theres copies available on usenet - looks like at least the first season, didn’t check the rest
A cracked version of Hatch. It’s embroidery software that my GF has wanted to use for her hobby / tiny side hustle but a license costs literally hundreds of dollars.
Plenty of options for embrilliance which seems to be a major competitor, maybe have her give that a try?
Fun School 6: Futureland. Its a shitty edutainment game from the 90s that I played non-stop for like a year, that I want to get my hands on for nostalgia purposes. As far as I can tell its not available (online or physical media) anywhere. I finally found a copy for sale a few years ago, but it turned out to be a mislabelled copy of fun school 6: fairyland.
I will keep searching, eventually a copy will show up somewhere!
Here you go: https://archive.org/details/fun-school-futureland
Holy shit… for years archive.org only had fairyland and I’d given up on this one ever appearing. Thanks so so much for spotting this. MY QUEST IS OVER. Time to see just how crap it is :D
Glad you found it! Enjoy
Nice pull!
I recently had the pleasure to slay it actually. It was the kinda like Twilight Zone but Horror ‘Night Gallery’ from 1996. It did exist, but the torrent that was circulating was messed up beyond belief. Episodes cut off at 20 minutes etc. Some dude on a private tracker ripped the whole thing anew for me.
Thanks for sharing! Glad someone could connect and help you find it

Dead Poetic band merch. A little-known post hardcore band from the early 2000’s. I’ve got all of their CDs and some limited press Vinyls, but I would kill for some legit shirts. Years ago I found a sketchy site that claimed to have a handful left, but they were all too small. I wish now I still had bought them anyways, but oh well.

A GameBoy game I played as a kid that was some kind of JRPG. It wasn’t a well known one like Chrono, Mother, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc. I have searched through lists online and tried finding screenshots and videos of gameplay, been through several hours of vids, but nothing I’ve found has been it.
-
A stupid video from the earlier days of YouTube called “The Poop.” There is a “The Poop 2” but it’s not the same. My friend and I found it randomly on some late night YouTube binge and cried laughing. It became an inside joke between us for years and we would link the video to each other or sing the music from it for instant laughter. It either got privated or deleted. I’ve spent hours and hours combing through the depths of YT and the internet at large trying to find a copy/reupload, same for my friend, but we’ve never found it.
<Edit> Number 2 is SOLVED!!! Holy crap, I literally just randomly found it. Talking about it here inspired me to try some more Google-fu and I happened across an ebay listing for Quest: Brian’s Journey and the cartridge artwork immediately jogged my memory. Looks like I mis-remembered some details, that makes me even happier that I found it!
Going to be totally NOT downloading a ROM to play on my Steam Deck this evening…I would never…
- I remember being gifted this weird JRPG for the Gameboy that was not even localized, and being a stubborn kid I randomly went through its japanese menus trying to see what each thing did, but gave up in the end. Years later I had a flashback and went to YouTube, only to find it was actually an incredibly mediocre Gundam RPG called Lacroan Heroes. It’s a long shot, but that’s the most obscure JRPG I know of for the Gameboy, maybe that’s it?
What a pull! Hopefully this is it or offers some additional insight! Nice work.
I’ll check that out and let you know!
Read my edit, I found it!!! :D
-
Long shot but have you tried to track down the band members? They might have some, or their record company if it’s still around
-
Interesting… maybe provide any details you do recall about characters or map environments! A few people have been helped so maybe we can figure this out!
-
Interestingly, my spouse found out that the lead vocalist now works as a graphic artist and has done work for some huge groups like Twenty One Pilots and Underoath. I found his webpage and have thought about sending him a message, but I haven’t ever done it, nervous I guess lol. Your prompt might give me the needed “oomph” to actually go through with it tho lol.
-
It’s tough because I barely remember anything specific from it. To make it worse, the game had a saved profile when I got it, (it was second hand.) I only ever played that save file which was already at endgame content, so I don’t even remember what the intro/early game was like. Here’s all I can remember:
The color pallet was pretty bland. It had lots of random encounters and when they happened, there was a quick sequence where the edges of the screen spiraled inwards in a kind of striped, spiral pattern. There were lots of odd creatures, like these kind of rock worms/snakes if I remember correctly? You had a party of 3-4 people and lots of different spells/abilities. I remember I got lost for a long time wandering through some ice caves and kept having to fight random monsters every 10-20 seconds. I can’t really remember the story or lore even. But I’m pretty confident I’d know the music/sounds if I heard them.
Send that email! Worst that can happen is a no or no response! I’ve gotten a few authors to sign books through the mail by emailing them, it’s always a possibility!
Right on! I’ll give it a go lol.
Let’s gooo. Fingers crossed
Also, was the text in English, or was it in Japanese?
Read my edit, I found it!!! :D
Not that one I don’t think. The text was all in English.

I don’t expect to be able to answer your question, but can you provide any remembered details on the GameBoy JRPG? I’ll even take half-remembered ones. I love a good mystery!
Check my reply a few messages down, those are all the details I can remember about it. I am also pretty sure it was a Gameboy Color game, not advance or OG GameBoy, but I’m not 100% certain.
Ah, I see that now. Should have thought to scroll farther. You’re right, that’s a tough one!
Read my edit, I found it!!! :D
Holy shit this community rules. I’m so happy for you! May it live up to all your memories.
Heck yeah! Congrats. Enjoy your nostalgia bomb.

A rip of this specific limited edition CD, that contains a few bonus tracks that can’t be found anywhere else in CD quality.

A PDF of the short-lived Japanese edition of GURPS 4th Edition (specifically Characters and Magic). The books are very hard to find, and usually cost $300-500 when sold online. It seems like no scans were ever made.
I’m surprised the price is not unreasonable on that link! Best of luck. Might have to dig into ru trackers if you think safe
For gurps I think theeye.eu may have what you are looking for. I will message you a direct link.
Thanks!
Unfortunately theeye.eu only has some GURPS Classic books, not 4th edition. I’m specifically looking for scans of these:

A good quality version of the “VR.5” tv series from 1995. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR.5
It’s a TV show about virtual reality and has peak 90’s aesthetic. They shot the scenes in "virtual reality"on black and white film and colorized them manually afterwards to create a very distinct and vibrant look. That must’ve been so much hard work.
Sadly, there is only a 240p VHS rip with extremely terrible quality out there. I’ve always wanted to watch the whole thing, but it’s too degraded to enjoy like this.
