Hi folks,
Just found this community and curious about what everyone is either using as a daily driver or have got their eyes on in the EV space.
I’m from Vancouver, and a few years ago my partner and I bought a new Chevrolet Volt PHEV as a “bridge” car to get us through the next while as charging infrastructure scales out. We get about 100km of electric range in the warmer times and 70km in the winter. Perfect for our needs around Vancouver, while still giving us flexibility to drive out to Whistler or Banff for our vacation roadtrips.
So what are you driving?
Tbh while I’m ready to ditch gas, electric vehicles need to drop in price drastically and companies need to support them long term before Im going to be financially comfortable getting one. Chevrolet dropping both the Bolt and Volt in less than 4 years spells terrible for smaller electrics, sedans and hatchbacks.
What I would really love to see is companies formatting their previously combustion models as electric.
Wow. I hadn’t heard the bolt was being discontinued. I know they have a number of other EVs on the roadmap, but I don’t know if any will hit the Bolt pricepoint
They’ve moved to the Ultium platform and are discontinuing the Bolt lineup I think until they get their new EVs out. The battery tech they are about to add apparently saves them close to 40% in production costs. I have a feeling the bolt will be back down the road.
22 Mach E, really like it. We want to replace our 2nd car with an EV eventually, but prices and interest rates are insane.

It’s been almost 4 years and no issues really.
Will wait out the next generation. I think the F150 Lightning has the package right (a viable emergency backup battery for the home / V2G) and hopefully it will trickle down to more and more electric vehicles. IONIC5/EV6 got close but missed the mark with the 3.6kW cap.
Also, I won’t consider upgrading until I can get 350km of highway driving in the winter for around the same price (or the adjusted equivalent when the time comes). Canada is BIG.
Edit: I second @dom (kona owner). Range is crazy good with a heavy bias towards 60-90kph driving in the summer.
My Niro EV just hit 500km on the guess o meter two days ago at 100% charge(which I do once a month) I’m also in BC. It will likely stay there until late October.
It’s such an underrated ev, nothing flashy, just gets you and your shit where you need to be.
I’m a few days late and just discovered this community myself, but I have a Chevy Bolt. I’ve been driving for Uber while in nursing school, and driving an EV has easily saved me thousands of dollars on fuel costs. I’d say every fourth Uber passenger asks me about it and we end up having a convo about EVs too!
Have a reservation for a Chevy Blazer EV, which will be my first electric. Also keeping my eye open for other options, however, as it looks like right now they won’t offer Supercruise on the RS trim, and probably won’t see it until 2024.
Also, GM’s announcement that they’re moving to Tesla’s NACS for 2025 would probably mean it’d be the last and only model year with a CCS charger.
Wanting to get an F150 Lightning as the FJ Cruiser, while fun, is not the most practical work vehicle.
My partner and I love our Golf and GTI, but want to get an electric car. Unfortunately VW isn’t bringing the ID.3 to North America. Any suggestions that might feel similar in size and driving? We don’t really want an SUV :(
We purchased a Kona EV two years ago. It is a great little car, over shadowed by it Iconic siblings. IMO its worth a look.
Thanks for the suggestion! We had written it off because it’s classified as an SUV. But looking at the dimensions it’s really close in size. We’re interested in checking one out now after looking at it online.
Well the most obvious one-to-one comparison is a Chevrolet Bolt (subcompact hatchback). Unfortunately Chevy has discontinued new production. Have you looked into it as an option?

Model Y Performance. I don’t care about the brand, is the best combo of speed and size. I love driving to music events and using it as my tent.
Currently driving a kona EV and have a deposit on an ioniq5. The range in the kona is usually about 500km in the summer and we’ve never had an issue, even on road trips.
We aren’t in a mountainous area though
I was planning to buy one soon and then I saw the promo for the new Volvo EX30 - it’s exactly what I was looking for and significantly cheaper than the competition. I just don’t know when it’ll be available in Canada :(

Just found this community myself. I haven’t been able to make the switch as I’m far too poor to every buy a new car EV or not. However, GM’s eCrate project has given me inspiration to convert my 1965 Chevy K10 pickup into an ev. The potential for plug and play conversion sourced primarily from scrap parts makes it possible for me with my limited time and money.
I’m looking at getting an Ioniq 5/6. I want the 6, but my wife wants an SUV so we might look at the 5. 2 things holding me back: the crazy wait times, and the fact that nearly all manufacturers are switching to Tesla chargers, makes me hesitate on CCS cars.

23 Mach E Premium. First EV and love it. The build quality and features are leaps and bounds over my old pickup. Range is acceptable, but looking for it to improve for future generations.
I have a 2021 Mustang Mach E California Route 1. I’m incredibly happy about it. The longest trip I’ve taken is to Banff. It’s a fantastic drive and only takes 8 hours with charging. I’m very excited to see electric improve.
Driving a Honda Fit right now, the only electric thing I can afford is an Ebike (ENGWE EP-2 Pro, ebikes are fun but I wish I saved up more money to buy something better).
