Well, me and my family was in a car crash today. We are fine, nobody got seriously hurt, no broken bones, nothing thank god. We didnt pass out or anything, but my Apple watch instantly detected the crash and wanted to call 112 (emergency services) but we didnt need it. If we wouldve had a worse crash i think it would have saved my and my familys life today. This is why its worth the couple extra bucks for the apple tbh.
why are the earliest comments so salty
some people just wake up and choose violence
Some people have nothing better to do than sit on their phone and be bad people.
It’s probably the wording of the main post. The word “saved” means that the watch actually helped in doing the “saving.” So anyone with a proper understanding of the English language sees this as clickbait.
And no matter who OP is, I’m glad they all made it out fine. Car accidents are no joke and I’m happy for their safety and well being.
well, i self taught myself english at the age of 14 so its not perfect but decent enough that i can go anywhere in the world and be fine
Fuck yeah man, languages are hard especially English. More power to you and glad y’all are golden 💪🏼
I wonder if the watches with with fall detection also pick up on crash detection.
So it didn’t save your life? Then why say it “saved” your life?
You typed something very logical. I equate this post to: “We were cooking in the kitchen, but didn’t burn the house down, and having a phone saved our life since we didn’t have to call 911.”
As with all of reddit, all you need is a couple downvotes, and the sheep will follow perfectly in line.
Hence the quotes
Mine helped me when I injured my foot. I got a cut deep and wide enough to need 20 stitches. I was getting really faint and felt like I might lose consciousness and didn’t know where my phone was. I laid on the floor scared and alone and put my hands to my face and then saw my watch. I had only had it a couple months and obviously wasn’t mentally at my best at the time and forgot I had it. It allowed me to call for the help I needed.
All modern cars have this service built in
Yeah, because everyone can afford a new car.
But a better investment to safeguard your bones next time rather than a watch
Sounds like the vehicle you were in saved your lives. The watch was just a follow-up. Let’s test this theory. Walk in front of a speeding car and see if your watch will save your life. 🤣
Well, mine might have actually saved my life. Kept telling me I had afib. I did not. Cardiologist finally discovered I had pulmonary embolisms. Would I have gone in to the doctor… because I also felt like crap? Probably… eventually.
I am so happy that they discovered it in time. I don’t know if you realize how very blessed you are.
Although this was before my Apple Watch, I began to have major problems breathing and attributed it to bronchitis. My doctor, whom I waited on for 2 weeks to return to his office refused to give me an appointment to come into the office and ordered me to the ER immediately. He was not happy with me.
Begrudgingly, I did. It was clear that the doctor and staff thought that it was nothing because after examining me, he signed off on my release and had the paperwork ready to do so once they received my labs.they were going to release me as soon as the lab results returned. They already had the paperwork completed.
Well, they got the lab results back and suddenly, I was told that I needed a CT scan. Within 5 minutes, I was being wheeled to get the CT scan and about 15 mins later, my room was overrun with medical staff, one of whom walked in to give me an injection in my ab. As it turned out, The doctor, who has totally brushed me off before, came in to tell me that I had an emboli in both lungs. It was weird because they were mirror images! He blurted out “You probably should be dead right now.” (He totally missed the course on bedside manners.) About 20 mins later, I was whisked into an ambulance with the sirens going and being rushed to the main hospital in Austin. Anyway, when the hematologist came to check on me (He practiced very good beside manners.) After he told me what came next, he looked at me and said, “it is great to speak with you because often, I don’t have this opportunity because the patient died.” It definitely put things into perspective for me. I only wish that I had an Apple Watch at the time because I would have gone to the ER sooner.
Once again, I am glad that you are here to talk about your experience. Blessings 🙏🏽
How old are you?
Glad you and your family are OK! 💖 That’s why I’m upgrading to the 9. I changed from Fit Bit to Apple Watch 7 when the fall detection came out (I solo hike and SUP). I have a great car, but I do not have crash detection. I live in SoCal, and the drivers here … SUCK.
Glad y’all are doing good.
thanks
Lol SAVED!
The crash/fall detection has never worked for me. I do have it turned on, but the two times I think it should have gone off it didn’t.
Two false alarms for me.
One truly a possible emergency: I hit one of those things…
While riding on my bicycle…
You know a um…
A Range Rover !
I was a bit banged up, busted my helmet up pretty bad, but did not need the ambulance. But would have called for me automatically had I not tapped it as I was OK.
Thankful to be wearing it.Both times it didn’t go off I was on my bicycle. I really thought it should have.
Once, one of my pedals striped out of the crank, as I was out of the saddle hammering. When I lost the pedal on a downstroke, I basically threw myself into the pavement. Apple Watch didn’t go off.
The second time, I collided with another cyclist, as I was avoiding a pedestrian.
It doesn’t work for bad driving.
Yeah, it should have alerted for you both times. Mine is a Series 5, and my bike accident was 2 years ago.
Every time I’ve fallen (usually playing sports) it’s gone off. So I haven’t had it not go off when it should, but I have had it go off many times when it shouldn’t. I work in an auto shop, so I’m occasionally hitting things pretty hard. Goes off at least once a day at work, sometimes twice. I want to turn it off, but who knows, maybe it’ll actually come in handy some day
Same! I was hit by a bike while crossing the road and was immediately on the floor winded. But no crash detection :(
Unless you were in the middle of nowhere, where nobody would possibly see your crash I fail to see how useful the watch would be.
Did the watch “want” to call emergency services or prompted you? Because if you’re in a crash and unconscious it’s not very useful if doesn’t do it automatically.
It asks if you need it to call emergency and if after a few seconds you don’t chose the option to cancel, it calls automatically.
Congratulations! You are inspiring, but yes, you are the one who is responsible for becoming healthier. It is not easy to change bad habit, and it takes consistency, determination and more to make those changes.
My watch wanted to call emergency services after I slammed the tailgate shut on my truck once. However, two weeks ago I fell down the stairs on my deck and it didn’t do anything.
I faceplanted the sidewalk this summer on my birthday (sober lol) and I couldn’t get up right away but was otherwise fine and I had to struggle to hit cancel at the same time as trying to get my face off the sidewalk but I guess it would have been helpful if I never got up at all anyway so fair assessment…
