Since the latest tvOS 17.1, I have to hard reboot my Apple TV 4K (model A2169) every time I turn my system on. I normally power my system on with the Apple TV remote, which also turns on my Nakamichi surround system and my Sony TV. I just updated my Sony tv to the latest software update last night hoping that may fix something but it didn’t.

When I turn the system on, all of my components will come on, but the Apple TV is just a black screen. Sometimes you can hear audio but no picture. I try pressing the buttons on the remote to see if that wakes something up to no luck. If I do a hard reboot with the remote, everything works fine. But it’s getting really annoying having to do this every day lately. Any thoughts?

I mean, it seems kinda weird it would be a cord or port if this just started after the latest tvOS update as I stated in the post

9/10 of these issues are the HDMI cable, or one of the ports along the way. You asked for thoughts, if you are content to just blame the update there isn’t much anyone here can suggest.

I am also having sound issues after latest update. Netflix is particularly vexing. No problems if I switch to HomePod 2 stereo pair. No issues prior to latest OS.

Same… seems to go into a deeper sleep overnight so next day I pull the plug and restart. I was thinking same about the cable so have changed it out and will know more in the morning.

Ever since I updated to os17, my remote needs to be rebooted fairly often in order to work with my speakers. I resorted to just using the speaker remote instead.

I got a good quality HDMI 2.1 cable to replace the 2.0. My system has been completely stable since then.

You could have had great 2.0 cables that the older is tolerated. This most recent upgrade could have added a feature that requires a better hdmi cable. My Apple TVs have been rock solid both before and after the upgrade. No issues at all. A software bug won’t usually impact one device and not another if the devices are set up identically. You need to isolate the problem to the least amount of complexity. Does the Apple TV work as expected when connected directly to the tv? Then the problem is with what’s in between. If it doesn’t work when connected directly to the tv then get the latest and greatest hdmi cable. If the atv still doesn’t work then it’s probably the atv. Could be a bad port that the new os is exposing. Or get a new atv and upgrade and see if the problem happens or not. Thats more expensive than just trying a new cable but do what you feel is correct.

Having a similar issue where the surround sound is on but no noise is playing. Have to turn off and on the tv multiple times for it to finally work. No issues on tvOS 16 really

No issues here on any of the latest AppleTV model (4 on site) and latest iOS updates.
