I’m a big fan of Safari and how seamlessly it works with all my Apple devices, but these ads are pushing me to the edge. I can’t even get through an article without being interrupted by some ad or another. It’s super annoying.
I’ve looked up older threads on this, and I’m choosing between two adblockers rn - Stop the Madness and Magic Lasso. They both seem like they could be a solution, but I’m not sure which one to go for. Anything that stands out?
Are there other options I’m missing?
I’d really appreciate any advice or insights you guys can offer.
Get a raspberry pi and setup Pi-Hole? I don’t actually know how well this works but I’m only suggesting it because I have an old Pi 3 that I’m no longer using for the original purpose and was planning on trying Pi-Hole, hopefully this weekend. Once I do, I’ll come back and let you guys know how it goes!
Just click the “Aa” on the side for reader mode. Life changing.
I use Wipr, seen it recommended here before and seems to work pretty well!
Interesting, I wonder why this over Brave browser?
Dumb question but does this work with Firefox? I swapped bc that’s what I use on desktop and I like it but I could use some more adblock
Firefox mobile can use addons. Downlaod ublock orgin
Seconded for Wipr
StopTheMadness is not an ad blocker, though it can auto-skip YouTube video ads.
I use Chrome, mostly because I am used to it from using Android so long. Safari seems to use Google, too, just adds ads.

Google is an advertising company first and foremost. They’re the worst offender by far when it comes to protecting your data.
Chrome is so buggy, slow, and ad-riddled on ios that it’s basically useless.
As stated, Chrome is just what I am used to using. Usually, I am just checking spelling or definitions before posting. OP asked for options and I shared.
Try Brave Browser, it’s built in ad blocker is a beast. I switched every browser over to Brave.
Cool tip! 🙌 Might give Brave a shot too…How’s your experience with Brave compared to other browsers?
I have used AdGuard for years and it works great.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/adguard-for-safari/id1440147259?mt=12Me too. I don’t think I ever see ads, except on YouTube
Same for me, I pay for the pro version and it blocks all ads, including youtube ones, when using it in the browser.
I use AdGuard for free, it’s not blocking every ads out there. But there are sites i didn’t realized had ads bcs i didn’t see them in the first place.
Don’t forget the AdGuard DoH DNS profile.
DNS-over-QUIC is better.
Oh I did not see this as an option on their site. Do they support this now?
I use their dns based Adblock and it’s working flawlessly no app required just install the profile from their website.
I use AdGuard(pro, there was a lifetime deal a long time ago). It’s great.
Very happy I snagged this life time deal as well
For anyone interested, you can basically always get Adguard Premium on StackSocial for super cheap. I got a lifetime family pack of licenses for $20 when I bought it. A lot better than paying for something that’ll only work on iOS and maybe MacOS tbh.
Will do so once I get paid tomorrow or Friday. Thanks! 😊👍🏾
This is what I use too and it works great. No more ads. Now the only thing that irks me are the sites who ask me to turn off ad blockers.
1Blocker for paid blocking, Wipr for free.
Wipr is paid tho.
I use the reader mode. All ads disappear
Legendary
I didn’t know this was a thing until now… it’s so much better. Do all sites support this mode?
No, but at that point you can either turn off reader mode and deal, or get the info from another site. if you need something more robust, suggest you go ahead with an actual ad blocker
Adguard and Wipr are great out of the box ad blockers. I tried Magic Lasso and it was not that good.
Adguard is my go to
I also use their DNS to block adds in apps and it works flawlessly
Nextdns blocks mobile ads in games it’s so awesome
I’ve been using Magic Lasso for a while now and have never had any issues. It blocks all ads without slowing down my browser.
Totally agree. It’s easy to set up too.
I use Adblock pro. For me it blocks all ads I visited.
Maybe too simple of an idea but have you tried the “reader mode”?
The most obvious place these work are the horrible recipe websites. Many ads to scroll and scroll through to see the damn ingredient list. Hold the AA 🔑 looking logo by the address bar to enable it. I have mine set to dark mode so the annoying ad filled white page becomes dark mode with no ads. Works really well on most pages. But not all.
