Hi folks,

I would like to buy a new laptop (I have only ever used Windows). I have been looking at these two models.

APPLE MACBOOK AIR 13" M1 - 8-CORE CPU / 7-CORE GPU, 8GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

1315,00€

APPLE MACBOOK AIR 13" M2 - 8-CORE CPU /8-CORE GPU, 8GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

1406,00€

I will not be cutting 4K videos or doing hardcore editing. I need a computer for simple work office, surfing, watching YT videos etc.

Personally, I would lean towards the older model, but the price difference is really manageable. However, I don’t know if it’s really worth buying the M2 Air. What are the real performance differences between the two models?

Can you help me, what do you think? Maybe also to those who own both models and have really lived with the laptops.

Thanks in advance.

Your usage sounds light enough that you won’t notice any performance difference.

The processor isn’t the only thing to consider, though. The M2 has a brighter screen, better webcam, and MagSafe charging which can free up an extra port for accessories. I personally feel that those features are worth the price difference.

For what it’s worth my M2 has 1 fewer usb c slot than my intel MBP.

I lost a usb c and gained a hdmi, so more connectivity kinda

I wouldn’t worry too much about performance, but MagSafe and a bigger screen are definitely worth those extra €

A good deal with the m1 16gb- definitely. 8gb with that small price jump and all the other benefits- definitely M2

If you plan to have a long term support of updates than I would suggest you go with the M2. I just got mine recently on Midnight Blue and I’m quite happy with it.

In your case, M2 looks better. But if you have a chance to upgrade RAM, it would be more beneficial.

If both options are the base (8gb) models then M2 will be the reasonable choice. If you’re considering 16GB it’s a different story.
