Apple refuses to separate sound controls. Alarms, texts, system sounds, screenshot noises, camera shutter, call ringer are all attached.

Why can’t I turn off screenshot noises without risking missed calls, wtf why is this even a connected concern??

    Media

    Calls (including 3rd party)

    Messages (including 3rd party)

    Notifications

    Effects

All Apple needs is to separate these. It can’t be that difficult.

Yes it’s silly!! My ringer volume is tied to the volume on the Facebook app. WHY?! It makes no sense.

What I can’t believe is that there is still no indicator on the screen when the silence switch is turned on. So I turn it on, and forget it’s turned on!

I’ve always wondered that. I keep my ringer off since every time I send a Snapchat or screenshot I don’t want people to think I am sending pictures of them… if I could turn off camera noises, I would leave my ringer on.

It’s less customisable but your 10yr old cousin and 78yr old grandmother find it easy to use. It’s a silent switch. Turn it to silent and your phone cannot make a sound without an interaction by you. Very simple and easy to understand. If you want more granular control of this in iOS you’ll have to use a combination of Focus modes and Shortcuts. Personally I think of be pretty easy for Apple to retain the simplistic silent mode AND add setting level granular control too.

Why don’t text message notifications automatically mute while I’m on a phone call? Why do I need my eardrum blown out by a text message ding while on a phone call?

I have kept my ringer off 24/7. Getting anxiety attacks from the calls and dings. I only turn it back on when my family and I are shopping in case we need to find each other.

Yuuuuup. I’ve been complaining about this for several years. At work I need the ringer loud to hear it over, well, everything (loud environment). At home, in a house dead quiet, I don’t want my alarm at max volume scaring the absolute shit out of me, and waking up everyone else in the house in the process. I can not for the life of me figure why the fuck volume isn’t separate. Such a stupid thing not to have.

It’s really baffling to (very deliberately) have no option in the camera app to turn off shutter sounds - as if it’s some kind of moral or legal requirement - but then allow you to turn it off globally via silent mode. It’s the single strangest UX decision on this thing.

I leave mine off because if I’m talking on the phone while they’re on and I get a text the notification noise is BLASTED in my ear. While I’m on the call.

I’ve had many iPhones, my first was the 3g now I’m a 14 pro. I don’t think any other phone I had did that.
