I pretty much only play on PC, and honestly I’m not very good, or deep into the scene. I’m mostly a causal enjoyer, and an audience member to the better members of the broader community. So that’s why I’m asking for your help.

Please post quality games with a link, and we can make this together. It will take a while and be a work in progress, but eventually we’ll get there. Here’s what we have so far, tell me if a game is low quality, and I can remove it.

Upvote this post! Lemmy doesn’t allow comment pinning.

I’m taking request indefinitely! Make sure to include links, and what platforms it may be on, it helps a ton! Also, if you see any errors, or games that need to be moved to different sections, please mention it and provide a link to help me get it right!

    Great list!

    Some additions:

Phigros on iOS and Android definitely, probably the best mobile exclusive rhythm game. It’s also completely free and has a large library.

VOEZ is another class game, great on Switch or iOS, Android.

Groove Coaster isn’t my favorite but has a lot of songs and works great on all platforms, quite a big community of players as well.

Cytus and Lanota are also quite nice

Can’t talk about PC rhythm games without shouting out StepMania either, the OG DDR/ITG clone

playing an instrument in real life Trombone Champ? Linked you to their site because they have a lot of links for different platforms. Not sure how much of a game Synthesia is meant to be vs a piano tutorial (I will give them that their URL is synthesiagame) but figured I ought to give that a mention too. Rhythm Hell is short but free for PC, and got picked up a lot by the YouTube algorithm if you watched a lot of music stuff aimed at a musician audience.

Not a rhythm game person at all despite being a musician, but some come to my attention anyways and if they do, I don’t mind trying to help small niche communities on Lemmy. Thanks for running this community and trying your best, I am in a similar position with !otomegames@ani.social and !automationgames@lemmy.zip. I am not an expert for any genre I mod, but hey, someone has to do it. I’d gladly cede power to an expert, but they are not here yet, so I’ll do for now.

I did enjoy Symphonica for iOS, mostly rhythm game with visual novel-style interludes but they took it off the App Store. There is a YouTube channel surrounding trying to preserve it.

      Before the Echo.

Older and a little grindy, but man… this game introduced me to Ronald Jenkees who does the majority of the soundtrack. I still actively listen to this soundtrack 10 years later.

Game play is fun too, switching between tracks to attack, defend or heal as needed but you need to time it right so that you don’t miss out on crucial defends or it will kill you.

Lots of rpg elements in this game too.

In a similar style, I’d recommend Metronomicon. I think this is a better video game overall, but there’s no Ronald Jenkees so I feel it’s a toss up and both are worth playing.

also a feedback, StepMania seems to stop its development for a quite long while, Etterna and Project Outfox are both really good alternatives…
