Anyone else feel like we’re on the very early stages of something new? I know I’m not the first and this system has probably been active with many but it hasn’t reached thousands or tens of thousands yet so it feels exciting to be here.

I just hope that this instance of social media ‘Canada’ doesn’t turn into the hell hole that happened in other social media sites (that shall not be named)

Any ways, I’m just happy to be here and I look forward to my new landing pad on the internet.

It is new. It’s also old, like the way the internet used to be. The way /c/Canada doesn’t turn into /r/Canada is by staying and engaging. 🤗💛

    It is pretty exciting though.

I hate to be that guy who says “this”, but…this. 100%. I came across one comment somewhere on Lemmy that said something like “how we build the communities now will dictate how they are in the future”. It’s kind of cheesy, but I want to believe that we can build something better and more positive than reddit is/was. There’s too much negativity on the internet these days.

That’s a neat thought … and possibly a prediction too.

It’s also very profound when think about it.

What we do on this site, this platform now will dictate what it will become in the future.

The future is really at our fingertips.

Thanks for this … Stay well and I look forward to seeing what we will all create.

I was excited on joining r/Canada but left a bad taste in my mouth when I got banned due to a wrong leaning comment. That turned me away for being more active in our subreddit. I hope this instance would encourage healthy discourse unlike the previous r/Canada.

I’m hoping that the demographic that took over /r/canada can’t figure out how to join /c/canada.

I’m not from Canada so I feel like an undocumented immigrant posting here lol… but I’m really excited to be part of the greater lemmy community. I get the same feeling here as when I first got sucked into online forums many years ago.

Speaking of old school forums, I made a little community that hopefully captures some of that feeling. !forum_games@lemmy.world

In Canada you would be called a temporary foreign worker. Welcome to Canada.

Hey there! Glad to have ya. The next forum game I’ll be adding will be a map-based game of conquest, kinda like Risk, where each player controls a faction and battles it out with other players until victory is achieved. I’ll be posting it shortly 😀

I’m hopeful that ppl can start getting along while staying true to themselves, community blocking needs to be talked about over instance blocking
