Just don’t ask me if there is an app yet
If that’s just a single site, then it could develop all the same centralization issues that started this mess.
It’s why we always link to join-lemmy.org , and not any single instance when recommending lemmy.
Should even /kbin remain a single-server software forever, other /kbin-compatible software will still exist (like Lemmy). Because of it, I don’t fear current /kbin quasi-centralisation.
@Kierunkowy74 single-server software? What does it mean?
Exactly what it says on the tin: a software with only one instance. Yes, I made a mental shortcut - I am listing different (but foreign or private) instances in a different comment.
Is it even a single server now? They had a handful of instances listed when I first heard about it a few weeks ago, and while I haven’t gotten it to build yet, build and setup instructions are on the git repo.
I totally agree, I just wanted to share one that I found yesterday that I though was easy for others to get into an check it out without any friction. Also, at least to me, this site is lesser known. I didn’t even see it on the Lemmy server list. The friction for some users prevents adoption IMHO. Some will sign up here, others on Lemmy, others beehaw, etc
It’s not on the Lemmy server list because it’s not a Lemmy server. It’s a kbin server. Different software, just interoperable.
Thanks for clarifying! I’m still new and learning :)
Happy to help! Fediverse stuff can take some time to wrap your head around because there’s no perfect analogy.
i feel like kbin has a better signup process and is seeing more development overall but their current ui is more confusing. Still have no idea what Microblog, People and Magazines are.
People are users, microblog is mastodon/Twitter, magazines are subreddits. Threads are posts.
And I agree completely. I’m back to Jerboa/lemmy.ml for now. Really hoping a kbin android app launches soon to make it easier to use.
Microblog is posts from Mastodon, People lists active users of an instance/a magazine, Magazines work exactly like communities on Lemmy (and Lemmy communities are listed along the magazines).
One particular advantage of „native” /kbin magazine is an ability of magazine owner to specify hashtags to automatically classify Mastodon posts to particular magazine. This makes a magazine a useful tool also for following Mastodon discussions by topic.
Add to Home Screen + kbin is 🤌, all I need is a back button or the ability to swipe back and I’m golden.
Do you get logged out constantly? I have to log in into kbin every time despite having “remember me” option turned on. but maybe it’s just my browser 😒
I’ve not had this issue myself. I’m using Firefox on desktop and Mobile Safari on iOS, and I’ve remained logged in to kbin.social for a few days now. Maybe it’s an overzealous cookie blocker or something in your browser?
I do on Jerboa with my lemmy.ml account. I haven’t tried kbin enough to say.
Yes, it happens to me too
Weird, swiping back works form me, maybe that’s because I’m using iOS
It does! I ended up figuring it out later. I just was swiping in the wrong area/not quite the right way :)
