There are so many, you can get a good overview of them just by taking rideshare in China. The intense rideshare competition between drivers means that you’re pretty much guaranteed to get an EV just because they’re cheaper to run. Roewe is the most common brand for this in my experience, but there’s significant variety especially by region.

  • This process pretty much summarizes why I’m scared to try changing companies lately. Presumably these measures are to make sure you’re not cheating with AI, but then if you get the job they expect you to use AI.

I like in-person interviews most, they totally resolve the trust concerns. And to other engineers interviewing you using fewer MS products is typically viewed as a good thing. But getting to the in-person part is difficult in this market even if you’re willing to put up with all their spyware from what I hear.

  • I get that it’s satire but it makes a good point. It is the government’s problem that renting out property is financially incentivized. We can’t expect any significant number of landlords to start charging below market rent. Especially because many of those landlords are public corporations who must act in the interest of their shareholders, directly against the interests of their tenants. This is the government’s problem to regulate and in absence of the regulation effort is better spent targeting government than individual landlords/corporations imo. Ya the government won’t do anything, they are the landlords after all, but at least there’s a path to changing the financial incentive through government.

  • Containers are often simple enough you don’t even need a guide. I don’t trust myself to configure anything on the host system correctly, and using Docker containers completely solves concerns of conflicting dependencies during updates. I personally avoid hosting anything that isn’t available with Docker anymore. It’s just too much work for a worse result.
