1·3 days agoI’ll believe it when I can select it as the only one to show results from.
Some of my alternatives to these:
- Search: Ecosia has Bing results, Startpage uses Google ones. Both are decent on what they do.
- Browser: Firefox and its forks are still good options. Remember, open source is not your enemy.
- App store: Aurora uses Play Store’s content (or lack of it), Droid-ify uses F-Droid’s.
- Mail, Drive, Password Manager, Gemini: Proton has made questionable actions before (e.g. parts of Lumo are not open-source). I recommend LeChat (Mistral’s AI, european) and selfhosting files if possible (Proton is a good alternative).
- Videos: Those suggested use YT’s content. Consider PeerTube (french, federated) for alternative content.
- Windows: Linux Mint is Irish, VOID Linux (for the technical users) is Spanish, SUSE Linux Enterprise (or OpenSUSE) is German.
Putin, in terms of a single person (don’t forget Israel has had multiple
dictatorsPMs), IS the biggest war criminal alive.
Built-in car navigation is an useless addition. Just know your city, for car’s sake!
2·10 days ago0,1% of Android users care enough about privacy or foss to switch to Linux if Ndroid is enshittified too much.
This may not seem like a lot, but that is (I estimate) 10 times more than the current number of people daily driving Linux on their phones.

To say something else, love that the Document Foundation’s post is just where it is and how to get there and get by there, no added fluff :)
The tradeoff of buying an old pixel is that their batteries are smaller than budget phones of 2024-25.
The tradeoff of buying Motorola is that their bootloaders are not readily unlockable and you risk not being able to do this if you buy too old.
I think a nice middle option is Nothing Phone, with bootloaders unlockable without requesting codes and average support in custom ROMs (Lineage only supports the 1 and 2, iodé and /e/ I believe support the 2a, 3 series and the CMF Phone)
