The protest is because of the insane amount of money reddit wants to charge for the api, which killed really popular apps. Spend some time learning about the technology behind lemmy. The UI/UX needs a little work, but the federated server model is a big step towards a decentralized and free internet that is not controlled by large corporations.
1password is the only one I trust
hm. The instance I’m on, lemmy.one, doesn’t have a downvote button or a ratio. Can each server owner configure it to remove that? Maybe I should switch instances! Is there an easy way to export all of my communities and migrate to lemmy.ml?
That would be kind of amazing. I would start watching the show again.
It’s cool for learning about tech stuff. that’s all I use it for
I use GPG mail with Apple Mail client and it works great. Just need to get the public keys of people you want to send encrypted email to.
The whole idea of the fediverse is decentralization. We don’t want one party in control of the experience. That’s why reddit is dying.
That feature exists. look for the little square icon with the - in it above the comment.
I think the idea is that many people can run lemmy servers so the load is split between everyone hosting them.
I’m new to lemmy. How do I join this community if my account is on a different server?
I’ve really been enjoying it…
I would like to understand how all of the individual Lemmy servers are connected… do you have any good resources for learning about lemmy?
It has nothing to do with a brand logo. Apple just makes quality computing hardware and has always tried to make really good software too. I’m going to buy it because I think it will be fun to play with and better quality than any existing VR/AR.
LOL. RIP Reddit.
