  • I would agree when Mastodon would it not already make it so easy for normies to join. If you can make a mail account, you can make a mastodon account.

It’s not entirely true. I mean, it’s easy to create account on any instance. It’s not easy to understand the concept of fediverse, be “discoverable” as an artist or sometimes even following someone on another instance. That’s why normies would pick something like threads or twitter, and the artists would have to choose the services that are more popular.

The question though, why won’t they use mastodon alongside other services. And to help them use mastodon, developers could create tools that would make it easier to post and read to/from multiple services at the same time, for example twitter + mastodon + threads. But it won’t be easy now to create such an app, because of twitter api costs, so probably won’t happen. Managing another service without big payoff might not be worth their while. Also, it’s what I assume would be the issue, so maybe I’m wrong, not an artist myself

  • A little problem I’m currently having is - when I navigate to a post, and then navigate back, often I’m brought to the wrong page - the content of the list is loaded like I would go back 2 pages, but paging works as if i was on a right page. Let’s say I’m on the page 2 of all, and i view a post. When I go back to the list - I see list of posts from page 1. But If I press button to go to the next page I go to page 3, skipping most of the page 2. This does not happen if I refresh the list before viewing the post - then I navigate correctly. This is on Vivaldi browser

  • It’s kind of related (on the topic of cluttering local view) - I wish there was a functionality to group some communities as a user - I’d love to seperate SFW from NSFW stuff, or even more granularity and control over stuff I’m in the mood for browsing at the momment.

But I agree that local view wouldn’t probaly work well for everyone as a curated feed, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

About personal communities - can a community be set as private? I imagine some people would like to make them not visible to everybody. I don’t know how would that even work with federation though
