  • I’m gonna disagree with the “it’s totally harmless” line. It is for like 90% of people into it, but I’ve also seen the other 10%. It can be a gateway into other pseudoscientific thinking, I’ve seen a lot of astrology people get into anti-vax shit. And on a more interpersonal level some start taking it so seriously it starts affecting their relationships, like they can mediate any conflict with a family member or friend without a discussion of their astrological sign to the point their loved ones get fed up talking to them about it. I’ve seen breakups happen over this.

And beyond that, as I mentioned above, I think it’s obnoxious and rude to demand everyone you know have a discourse with you about something they believe in but other dont. We wouldn’t hesitate to call this out if it were Christians injecting Jesus into every convo or STEM bros demanding to know everyone’s Briggs-Myers or IQ, but for whatever reason people demanding they know your sign before they talk to you gets a pass.

  • I’m American and I say: Every single American has been brainwashed from birth by the most effective propaganda machine in the history of humanity. Every single American carries brainworms designed to defend global capital and perpetuate a genocidal empire, and reflexively repeat them whenever challenged. Every single American has internalized these defenses to such a degree that they think they’re their own thoughts. Yes, even the so-called “American left”. Yes, even Bernie. Yes, even AOC. Yes, even your favorite Youtuber.

If you’re American, just shut the fuck up. The only way America can help the world is by dissolving itself, period.

Haha now you have to reject your own argument!

  • I think it’s extra weird that these kids spend the better part of a lifetime in this magic kingdom, never once even having a passing thought of their family or friends back in war torn England, and grow to be in their mid 30s before accidentally stumbling upon the portal back to their home world and then reverting to children. Like, wouldn’t that fuck you in the head? Living for twenty years on another planet with a totally different society and then having to return to being a Pre-teen in 40s England?

  • Anime consumption is pretty ubiquitous at this point. It’s really become in the same vein as video games, a formally niche hobby who’s hardcore fans were viewed as bizarre, but is now popular enough that almost everyone under 30 has moderate exposure to it. It’s not really even a white guy thing anymore, a lot of people seem totally unaware how popular anime is among African Americans, and while not 50/50 female anime fans aren’t exactly rare.

As such I think taking about “unique” effect anime has over other media is, well about as stupid as doing the same for video games. Video games tend to be more violent and anime more openly horny than most media, but yeah I don’t really think you can isolate any affects they have over any other media.
