I’m very sorry to learn that Rochko is stepping down as Mastodon CEO. I think he has probably contributed more than any other person to the success of the Fediverse. And it won’t be the same without him.

So you want the Fediverse, where people fled to get away from the commercial Internet, to become just like it?

I don’t understand why the new social media laws aren’t causing people suffering under free-speech-hating governments to flee to darkweb social media sites where the laws can’t be enforced. I know there aren’t many social media sites there for non-criminals, but why aren’t individuals with the minimal skills required to make hidden-service sites doing so?

Trump’s Gestapo is just doing what Gestapos have always done. Beating people in the streets or arresting them and beating them in private and causing fear. Why do tyrants have Gestapo’s? To make people too afraid to resist.

I’m not an expert, but my take on Reticulum is that while it is technically very good, it lacks practicality, because as a new user you have a very difficult time connecting to anyone. It’s chief strength and chief weakness at the same time is that it is a protocol for pure peer-to-peer networks.

I think most people will find that if they make an effort to learn to use Linux well, they will look back in five or ten years and be so glad they did.
