  • Idk, I think some things have a lot of intent in them. Some old cartoons were absolutely made just to sell toys (although I guess that is intent - to sell). I think art can also just exist, and doesn’t need a message behind it. It can just be an expression of a vision turned into some sort of physical manifestation. I will argue that a lot of people are influenced heavily by the need for $$$ (rightfully so). Likewise, I think a lot of media is manipulative and can have a sort of vapid feeling regardless of if AI is involved or not. Maybe you just need to find some new things to fall in love with? Maybe you just wanna hang with your older stuff. It’s all good, just saying that it’s not as hopeless as it feels even if a lot of media is an absolute dumpster fire. To be honest, it kinda has been for a while (I can’t say always, but for sure I remember some absolute shit coming outta the 70s).

  • While it is too late for me to be going down any rabbit hole of a video, I will say that playing yourself to any extend in a game is quite important. I mean, you can roleplay however you want, but I find it quite comfy if a game even has the components to represent me as I walk the plains of x-ville. I know more than a few people who were ecstatic to have their characters be trans in Cyberpunk. I know the more customization the more work, and I don’t expect indie developers to bring the noise. It’s nice though, when you get a chance to pick a character (for one) and have it look like you want it to look like (for two).

Ah, it can be quite fun and likewise quite debauched. I’ve walked into an orgy (that’s a story and a half) and had whole train sing-alongs. I think it’s perhaps much different now than ever before. I have had friends who are black who’ve hated pride because they’ve felt it’s white-centric. I think depending on where you’re located it could be a nice way to integrate yourself into the community. It could also be perhaps…too overwhelming? You can message me if you’d like, I could give you more information. Or we can talk here. Which ever you feel safest. But I think for personal things, messaging might be best?

  • Yes, I agree. I think being the best you can be as you can be is quite important. By that I mean, you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. My gal and I have been talking lately about what makes people feel “thrown away” and what solutions could be applied. I wish there were more sources for community, it feels often like everyone is either sleeping, being an actor in a play, or putting up walls. Things have changed so much, even in the past ten years the way people socialize and the places people can socialize. It’s really deeply saddened me to be honest. Although there are still people out there trying their best to build bridges to one another and it’s those people I root for. It’s just, nobody likes to be ostracized (I think that’s what has caused a lot of mental health issues in the first place), and nowadays being social with strangers is often seen as offensive. It’s crazy though, because how the hell does one exercise their humanity without it =P! It often makes me wonder if we were just born awful, and learn to be better than that. Lord of the Flies style =P!

Just as long as you’re not out here giving more than you’ve got I think life is fine. Wave your flags of peace and come as you are and be the best you can be because I can’t tell you how many people I have seen grumbling and grumpy and leave with a smile on their face after we’ve had a brief conversation. I think we’re all so dubious of one another and it’s really messed things up =P!

Thank you for your comments as well, right back at you and I wish you all the best and that you go in peace =)!

  • a) I hope you don’t loose all your memories, but I do understand it’s a very real fear.

    b) I personally do not trust corporations like Apple to do my personal information properly. My gal found it so quaint that they have handwriting recognition, it struck terror in my heart.

    c) Instead of archiving every piece of paper (which by the by you can do at a local library for free if you live in any sort of populace hub in America) I suggest you might consider archiving just the pieces that pull you. Perhaps small snapshots that comprise the greater moments of your life. Perhaps the little things that remind of you the kindness of the world. I think that’s really up to you, but I think digitizing your works if you’d like to is quite a good idea!

    d) You can archive them on a cloud service you enjoy or backup them on external memory just in case you are afraid of losing your content. I like to backup my most important things on all three. I use Sync for my cloud service needs, and a micro sd/usb flash drive for the physical. I also have a SSD hard drive, but I keep it hooked up to my lappy so I don’t consider it all that safe. Besides which I have heard for archival purposes a safely stored HDD hard drive is actually better for this. Although I don’t have the skinny, and others might have better input to assist on this.

As for making something searchable, to be honest I would start with how you name your files. Figure out a dating system you can recognize immediately. Think of your file hierarchy. Do you want to store your excerpts by year, and then store those by month? Then create a folder for the year and twelve sub-folders and plop your files there. As for automating the process, I don’t know anything about that to be honest. It’s plausible it’s all something you could automate. But I am unaware of the process.

I am a person who moves a lot. I have lost most of my precious (materialistic) things through out my life. The way I archive them is either through photo, or just through memory. I share my memories, which is how I keep them alive. This is probably not the most efficient way to handle things, but it is how I handle things. I have noticed as I age that my system’s cracks begin to show. I also figured that things just fall out of your head for a reason, and that perhaps as we age we sort of need that emptiness to let go. It’s kind of dour, but I once worked in a (god-awful) restorative home and it taught me a lot more about aging than I ever witnessed in my day to day.

By the by, the reason why I suggest selective keepsakes is because it’s how I’ve had to execute my own collections. I keep what I feel means quite a bit to me, even if it’s a small hand-written note just saying “hi!” It’s just about what “sparks joy” as Marie Kondo says =)! It keeps things succinct, although I don’t always keep/let go of the right things. But there really isn’t much I can do about that, and I am thankful I have anything at all. Good luck, and I hope you find a solution that not only works for you but is pleasurable to execute =)

Also good luck with any memory issues you may be facing, they’re terrifying and if you are facing some I am so sorry for that.

  • Get out! I was thinking lately that I wish they would (re)release all of their games again so I can finally play the damn game with the bird-dog. A long time ago, a friend showed me a trailer for that game before it came out. I missed it, and maybe with them releasing a new game they might consider putting the old ones up for funding? I don’t care how awful the controls or the ai is, their games blow my mind, just like you said =)! Thanks for the heads up! I wonder if it’ll end up being an Playstation exclusive, or if they’ll open the channels up a bit more?

  • ooo, this is a good read. It’s got my brain firing way too late in the night. Yawn! This person has to let their wifey migrate even if it’s an uphill battle. Cause a) she wants to and b) she is clearly open to doing her own research which is like…Linux 101. I get what’s going on here though, it’s like a call to action for developers as a whole to be more aware of accessibility needs. I get it. I see the hell that they’ve been through, and all the duct-tape they need in order to get a semi-functional system to work for them. To be honest most legally blind folks I have met (and know what systems they’re using) tend to use windows. It’s really good for accessibility and you can blow everything up 700xs to make things much more readable. I get not agreeing with their practices as they seem to be constantly jumping off the rails of what I myself would be comfortable using. I think having something you can use at all trumps having nothing you can use because you’re not the “intended” user. I think it kind of shows how accessibility tends to come with finances and really the only place I have ever seen it baked in that was made for the people is via the Government (and even then, that was more of a state-based thing over a federal setup). People will for sure grumble down on me saying something about this, but this might be a point where AI could help? I’m not sure, but it might be able to fill the gap well enough that someone can string things together to frankenstein better support or squash some usability bugs. Idk. I feel this person’s frustrations, I just wish I had a better idea for solutions if they want to stick on Linux. Lord knows what is going on the Mac side, because I find their software heinously unfriendly, but I don’t really use it much because of that.
