Trying hard to justify their epiphany… and trying to justify their plugin and advertise it.
Aligning on a purpose is important. I’d argue that being aware of how on board people are for that purpose is important too. I recently tried to say that the family chat should have less influencer posts since we don’t all agree on the positions and it causes friction. Boy was that a shit show
got personal stories about my loved one’s descent into MAGA
You and me both. It’s a bit terrifying how much of this has momentum outside the US. The supporters of South Korean president that ordered military rule wearing MAGA hats, or how often the talking points pop up outside the US, especially during US election cycles, from the “free thinkers”.
who does actually do a great job of prescribing the best advice for trying to engage in debate theatrics: Stop and move on.
Thinking of my personal experience, I get that, especially on the mental health front. Thinking of societal / political implications though, doesn’t that just give time to scatter information that’s hard to dislodge? A lot of what I’ve heard is the importance of prebunking, like what’s written in The Debunking Handbook (2020).
Let me know if you’d like to hear the synopsis in my own uneducated words, I in no way expect anyone to watch all that bullshit
I’ll save this post and get back to it. I also have a long boring flight coming up soon.
Do you have links to more effective strategies?
Downvote because the source title is misleading and the OP didn’t mention it. Some of the deep dive into the situation was interesting though
Oh, I wouldn’t be surprised if the loud mob is right but it seems like we’re all guessing with not much info. Agreed that it’s a bit fascinating. I’m definitely not upset with my decision to leave the US
I’m not, and the poster doesn’t seem to be, saying this isn’t some sort of retaliation for saying Charlie Kirk did some bad things. The Trump admin does do plenty of that. But a lot of posts are saying it’s definitive when it’s not. At the very least, based on how the law seems to be still enforced, they need some sort of pretext. The poster at least takes some time to address that instead of screaming loudly with certainty about an uncertain situation where we have pretty partial information.
Slightly off topic, I went looking for court documents instead of news articles but failed to find anything.
The lower courts have been blocking the administration a lot. Ignorant of you to lump every part of government together. And kind of infuriating when the lower courts are about the only thing restraining the executive in Trump’s second term.
Thanks for actually adding context and an assessment. Sorry you’re getting downvoted by people that don’t like it
That write up does seem to ignore the doubling down here:

Calling out that JD Vance was the only one to answer is pretty troubling to me after reading about some of his new-right ties. It’s way, way too close for my liking to a mouse telling everyone that will listen that the cat was amazing for inviting him and all his friends to his house in a week. ie. Playing into what just seems like an obvious strategy.
That said, I’m pretty ignorant about the CEO. I just remembered this lemmy comment and I didn’t notice it included in the write up that was being linked.
Actually, I think it is the “genAI” as part of writing tools and Siri update. I think I misremembered for my description and it was being applied to form fields for different configuration panels.
I just tested it with text inputs on a form. It triggers with peoples’s names from your contacts. It also triggers with capitalisation like typing something like “fedex”. If you type really quickly you’re fine, and if you type slow you have time to play with the settings. Speeds the middle with these “Spelling and prediction” settings end up with text changing. Enter and space seem to always trigger. A delay thinking of the next word seems to sometimes trigger. Seems new to me and the contacts suggestions seem aligned with the integrated Siri they’re advertising (and sure technically you could probably say it isn’t genAI)
Anyway, I’m turning the settings back off now
Yeah, I wouldn’t surprised to be wrong with how frustrated I was with words in config files changing + commands in the terminal having words updated just as I hit enter to run them. I updated yesterday, haven’t had this issue before, and it stopped happening when I turned off those settings. I’d turned similarly named settings off on the iPhone years ago but never noticed them on the mac. With the names of the settings and the very similar fail mode to when genAI is added to IDE (things like updates being accepted when you hit the right arrow), I did assume a bit.
It still seems odd for me. I can’t remember the mac ever taking what I wrote and changing it without some input from me.
Either way, my issue seems to have stopped so I’m pretty happy turning the settings off.
Also, I just worked out why text kept changing and breaking things. During the update they created, and set on by default, these two settings:
Fuck Apple and all these companies that keep jamming genAI down their user’s throats to make their launch metrics higher. And fuck all the software engineers that go along with it
I came here while searching for how make notifications linger for less time at the top of the screen. I think this time increased with iOS 26 but I could just be less patient because of the recent change.
Anyone know a good place to ask? I know I Stack Overflow and Reddit work, but I’m trying to use less US tech services. It seems like Lemmy should be a decent match, but I couldn’t find a good channel. I figure people that are interested in things like this post might also know a good channel / alternative
For anyone that really hates it, try different combinations of these settings:
The combinations look okay on the iPhone, not so much on a mac
Yeah, I down voted for the poster not saving some of us a click
I’d argue memes that duplicate other peoples work are common but questionable on the ethical front.
Kind of like how alcohol consumption is common and got shoehorned in through our long history with it but newer drugs are more likely to have people question their cost to society (and demonise them usually for political gain, still many have some obvious costs).
If you’re a small family store that makes an amazing recipe and people love it, and you keep that recipe a secret. You’re honestly okay with a competitor stealing it? Not a competitor making a bad ripoff, but finding a way to get the recipe and using that to clone the meal for a profit.
Obviously with larger companies it’s easier to say fuck them but investing time in something and then having it taken is a hit even if its “information”, isn’t it?
It’s not just uncomfortable though, it’s hugely time consuming. And like, I think we’re getting to the point where more collective time has been spent explaining the world is not flat than the human hours it took to find out the world is round. If the person happens to be knowledgeable then they can kill a lot of time through out “what about X?” arguments (like missing links for evolution) and that requires someone with a lot of knowledge to slowly explain, so the approach also biases towards locking up the most knowledgeable people instead of them being more free to do other things (in the evolution example, maybe biology research).
I guess I’m not arguing against the empathy first communication, just lamenting how effective the flood the zone strategy is.
