Hello Wonderful people!

I have a few questions. I mainly want a framework due to the right to repair aspect and the ability to upgrade at future points as needed

I’m getting this for college. Other then coursework I pretty much will only be watching videos, streaming from my jellyfin server, and very light gaming (think Celeste).

I wanted to know if I should go for the i5-1340P or the i7-1360P Framework 13? I doubt I need the processing power so much as I need the battery life. For context my current laptop has a Intel i7-10510U and a 73Wh battery. As for memory and storage, I intend on recycling those from my lemur pro which has 16gb of ram and 1 tb NVME.

My other question is if I should buy the 13 or wait for the 16 in general? I assume I could upgrade the 13 to the 16 specs at any point if I understand this laptop correctly. I want to ensure that I can just buy this and keep upgrading as needed.

Alright thank you! I’ll probably just go for the i5 then, the extra 300 isn’t worth for only 11% gain I guess.

As for the mainboard not being compatible, is this gonna be the standard going forward? if I buy the 13 am I stuck with those specs? That is a huge part of me getting this laptop so that would become a very hard buy if thats the case.

Edit: oh I might just be stupid is the 13 and 16 just standing for the size of the laptop? which means parts that fit the 13 should be out in the future should I need one.

You can buy the improved battery separately, its just mot included with the i5 by default

The 13 and 16 stand for the size of the laptop yes. Hemce the mainboards are not compatible. Future Framework 13 mainboards will fit older Framework 13 cases. Same with 16, its just they arent interchangeable with eachother.

Just to be clear with naming, Framework uses naming like Dell XPS laptops, which are Dell XPS 13/15/17 based on size.the name itself doesnt really tell you what hardware is in it, just like just saying Mac Book Air isnt specific. All it will refer to is what size youre expecting.

With the $300 you save going to the i5, you could buy a USB-C power bank that’ll hold more than 11% of a charge and also work on your phone, tablet, or Nintendo Switch.
