I woke up at 2 am and couldn’t help but look. Couldn’t get back to sleep until 4, but it’s all just been ‘how did this happen? How could Americans not see all those signs as bad?’
Because most of us are arrogant, short-sighted, stupid, greedy, and have no empathy.
At this point I know I need to move to a blue as fuck state, or maybe emigrate to somewhere with better enshrined lgbt rights, universal healthcare, and legal weed, like say Mexico.
I was talking about that with @ininewcrow@lemmy.ca yesterday. So many Americans see Star Trek episodes where soulless computers run everyone’s life or people are forced into suicide booths for the enjoyment of the elite or the Roman Empire runs the world with an iron fist and they think those all sounds like great ideas.
I’m numb too. I’m having a hard time processing it. I woke up in a completely different country/world.
I find that hard to believe given that Trump isn’t even president yet

We survived 2000 (you know, not well), we’ll survive this.
Though I say that with a lot less confidence and conviction than I normally do.
If we don’t survive it doesn’t really matter now. You can’t change anything. Panicking about the future is not constructive.

(I’m kidding but only just barely.)
We are a minority. 🤷♂️
To be a serious Star Trek fan means you see way beyond countries and current politics.
That isn’t something most humans are good at.
It maybe will always feel bad for us to exist in this uncaring universe where the majority seems to care only about what immediately affects them.
To have a kind and open heart maybe just has this cost. I wish I could offer more.
