It is our own fault for continuing to support this corrupt party!

Seems to not matter how badly these Republicans fuck up, the American people are ready to give them power again come the next election cycle. It is like we have collective amnesia or something and we can’t remember how bad Republicans are at managing. They freely admit they despise the big bad government, so why the fuck do we think they would do a good job at running it?!

I’m pretty sure most Americans here don’t support this party, so the term “we” is loose at best.

      Psst! The problem is FPTP!

If a normal, proportionally elected parliament, there would be room for an alternative that vouches for the same opinion, but due to their slightly lower level of corruption would be seen an alternative for people who votes republican. Thus, through a free market of ideas (something ‘muricans ought to like) the party that was abandoned by theirs electors would clean up their act and come back stronger.

It works in almost every other democracy!!

PS: you’d probably have to switch your presidential election system to use Approval or Condorcet voting systems.

The whole election system in America is flawed, this “the winner takes it all” system combined with the electoral college, which can turn out to ignore the majority vote is laid out to foster a “them against us” mentality. And before you let the other side win (“bohooo, they are all communists…”), you’d rather give criminal your vote. Coalitions and compromises like in other countries with a “majority system” are not very likely in this constellation.
