What do you have, what do you recommend, and why?
Asking as I’ve got a lot of spare components lying around that I’m planning on turning into a NAS. If it doesn’t work out I’ll buy a pre-built enclosure and reuse the drives.

Asking as I’ve got a lot of spare components lying around that I’m planning on turning into a NAS. If it doesn’t work out I’ll buy a pre-built enclosure and reuse the drives.
Honestly, I have both, but that’s because redundancy is amazing. Generally, DIY is more involved and thus more fun, but if you just want boring set-it-and-forget-it data backups, a pre-built NAS is a better option.
