I’m sceptical that they just turned on logging(even if they were legally obligated) and did not write that they have to do so if the police forces them. They claim that this is not possible for their vpn service though.

My point still stands, they keep logs.
As a general statement that is incorrect. That was a specific case where they were legally compelled to give what they could, the default is no logs.
