As quoted from the linked post.

It looks like you’re part of one of our experiments. The logged-in mobile web experience is currently unavailable for a portion of users. To access the site you can log on via desktop, the mobile apps, or wait for the experiment to conclude.

This is separate from the API issue. This will actually BLOCK you from even viewing reddit on your phone without using the official app.

Honestly, mobile browing (even using old.reddit) has been garbage for years because they detect your mobile OS and constantly try to push their app on you. Click on link, do you want to open in mobile app? let me open the playstore for you. And then you also get limited comments. To see more comments open in mobile app… You could do a case study in how to alienate your customers into leaving your platform on just mobile browsing reddit.

I’ve never experienced the limited comments but it does constantly send an intrusive popup at the bottom of the screen that forces me to respond if I want to continue on my browser or go to download the app.

Also I have to switch to desktop mode to access certain features such as uploading a picture or a video when creating a new post. The Reddit mobile site only lets you make text or link posts.

All of this functionality could easily be added to the mobile site but it’s clear they’re hobbling the mobile site to annoy people into downloading the official Reddit app where they will have greater access to your personal data.

Yeah, it’s refreshing to see how quickly Lemmy is able to load. I used to just barely load the reddit mobile site and launch in infinity, but now I’m gonna do my scrolling on Lemmy. I’m sure it will be healthier without so much doom. Watching so many social medias burn is kinda entertaining.

Using old reddit on mobile in the past, I haven’t experienced any of the reddit app nagging other than the GET REDDIT MOBILE banner on the frontpage.
