So you’re telling me that my single puny brain is susceptible to influence and manipulation techniques which have been actively used and perfected for centuries?
Well my good sir, I don’t believe you
Well, the problem is that we see so many other people fall for propaganda we recognize as ridiculous.
Yeah, it’s always easier to see the big picture when you’re not part of the said picture
I see what you’re trying to do here and I won’t fall for your Mongolian propaganda techniques!
God damn Mongoriens! Always trying to break my shitty wall!
You are the pure one.
Everything I believe is correct though, so if I see something that agrees with what I already believe, it can’t possibly be propaganda.
You just fell for that ‘truth’ propaganda didn’t you? 😜
Propaganda is what British people do when they want a better look at something.

It’s just what they want you to believe. They don’t want you to be successful.
“Propaganda doesn’t work on me, I vote third party!”
-Actual quote from a coworker.
I’d like to disagree, but you have convinced me!
It’s simple really. Propaganda you consume: cringe soyjak Propaganda I consume: based Chad
You are correct, disembodied head of Garfield the Cat. Please tell me how to think and how I should feel.
I didn’t believe this, but then i saw this being posted again and again, and now i’m starting to think it might actually be true
U always reply w this when someone online talks about how ads don’t work on them
They can’t work on you if you don’t see them. My gal Ublock Origin taught me that.
Every logo on every product is an ad. Not to mention everything you come across on a stroll through town. Unless youre living that unabomber lifestyle you’re absolutely exposed to ads.
Not if I blind myself with a rusty spoon
and deafen myself with a pointy loom
Oooo, while I do feel that I am very aware of, and hostile to, intrusive advertising online I have actually bought a few things specifically because I had seen them in an ad. It makes me feel a little conflicted but all of those things were extremely niche, so it took extremely targeted ads for things I would have eventually found on my own to actually make the sale.
I believe this is an important message for everyone on lemmy to keep in mind, from lurkers up to the devs and admins,
Nope. I worked in the propaganda industry - I know I’m not immune to it. Nobody is.
For every type of propaganda that you recognize, there are a dozen others you don’t. There’s propaganda designed for people who think they’re too smart to fall for propaganda. Too much money and power is at stake to leave any loose ends.
What if this is propaganda? Checkmate atheists.
I’m inoculated more for certain types for sure - but it’s based on what I’ve been around already. I do think certain types of people - analytical types are slightly better at spotting it & avoiding & the types that just love to learn & to change their minds based on scientific evidence. To me that’s all we can hope for.
If your idea of truth though comes from a god or spirit then you are just stumbling in the dark.
Yes, but what if the science is full of propaganda?
For science journalism sure? Maybe some shit with pharma. But in general not really unless you mean like education which may or may not be counted depending on definition.
What I can say is that Bill Nye and Kent Hovind are entirely different forms if they are both propaganda. Also one of them is infinitely more harmful than the other and it ain’t the man with the catchy theme song.
I’m not anti science but you have to follow the money. Who are paying for the studies no matter where they’re done? I believe in science as a process of learning and science is telling me there are a lot of mistakes and bias in science. Of course not all of them, but enough to take it all with a grain of salt.
