FreeTube is my darling on Desktop
It doesn’t hide your IP so I’d recommend using something piped-based if you need that level of privacy
I already have a VPN
Oh ok then
LibreTube’s proxy system has been broken for a month.
Confirming the other comment : https://fosstodon.org/@libretube/112217383459938892
If you check their GitHub, there is an open issue and a very simple fix - enable “Use HLS” in settings. It’s as simple as that
Appreciate it. Thank you
Oh sweet. I thought Newpipe stopped development to work on a rewrite, or am I misremembering? Either way, nice to see comments working again.
Possibly that’s only about changes to the UI, and this is to the extractor. Afaik newpipe’s extractor is used by other projects too, like piped
Thanks for the post. Comments hasn’t been loading for like months. Just updated and it’s fixed.
Why on earth would you want YouTube comments. That’s the best thing about this, switching them off.
Jokes aside, happy for you that something you are using is working again.
Sometimes they’re useful. I was watching a tier list of swimming caps and the comments happened to ask decent questions and the author was answering them politely.
Watching something that is useful. Like tutorials on working on cars, PCs etc…
Not all of YouTube is garbage. Some of us like to learn things
I prefer Tubular for reliability+sponsorblock, or LibreTube for Material UI.
Same. Libretube is the first that I check, sometimes doesn’t work then I go to Tubular.
There is also PipePipe
+1 as i use it and its actually updated in fdroid main repo.
Is it updated faster than BraveNewPipe?
Cuz BraveNewPipe has sponsorblock and return YT dislike built-in.
First time hearing of bravenewpipe so I don’t know. You can check the git commits and releases though.
Same. Tubular is awesome
Are they going to update it in the main f droid repo now ? Otherwise whatever .
Are you aware of Obtainium
Yes but i’m not interested as fdroid has many features that i like for ex: conforming the builds, inclusion policy, stopping updates if something is changed, removing proprietary builds etc obtainium is just a tool to make getting apps from git or anywhere else easy and not at all as safe ir useful as fdroid for me .
This is actually pretty based and reasonable, even though the trust issue is not solved but shifted. Take my upvote kind sir.
Thank you here take mine .
Edit : Hey i just rememebered that fdroid now lets devs also check the files they upload are the same that are pushed by the dev so the trust issue is kinda solved as now the dev and fdroid has to be corrupt instead of one and this is the maximum safety we can attain unless we read and built from the source of every app we use which no one do .
Out on Fdroid now and working
No it isn’t .
Refresh your repos, I literally just downloaded and installed it
I did refresh . Also repos ? I was talkin about tge official fdroid repo .
Oops my apologies, lol I checked and I must have installed the upstream NewPipe repo so long ago that I forgot that I even had it in my sources list. Literally my only repo other than Fdroid main.
No reason not to use it, though, it’s the official NewPipe repo:
Does anyone know of an active fork with sponsorblock?
Tubular
Can’t seem to find this on f-droid or DDG.
Add this repo to your fdroid client:
https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/repo
Link to the repo:
https://github.com/polymorphicshade/TubularThank you for this. I appreciate your effort.
It’s on the IzzyOnDroid repo, which you can access with Droid-ify, which is a fork of f-droid that uses their repos as well.
Need a fork of an app that replaces a Google app to get a fork of an app that replaces another Google app.
Turns out I was wrong. :/
I can use the IzzyOnDroid repo with the regular F-Droid app, am I missing out on or doing anything wrong?
No.
No, I didn’t know that because I learned about them at the same time.

If you’re primarily downloading videos, there’s a much better open-source app for that called tydlnis, here: https://ytdlnis.com
If you’re using it to just browse, there probably is, but I can’t help you there.
Is it still alive? I switched to LibreTube and happy with it.
Anyone here know how to disable shorts? I could’ve sworn there was an option to disable it previously, but I can’t find it any more.
Hide the ‘Shorts’ channel tab:
Settings > Content > Channel tabs > Uncheck 'Shorts'
Hide shorts in feed/subscriptions:
Settings > Content > Fetch channel tabs > Uncheck 'Shorts'
Thanks! I did that, but it doesn’t get seem to get rid of them from “trending”.
I see. I don’t believe there’s currently any way to filter kiosk content by type like that. You could open a feature request for it on GitHub if you’d like (assuming one doesn’t already exist).
