How difficult is this to understand? Stop engaging with Reddit if you have a problem with Reddit. Everyone one of if you that goes there, or creates bots, generate clicks and activity. This is the best outcome Reddit could hope for, is a bunch of morons going back to keep the site more active.
Either protest by doing nothing, or be a Reddit and fucking own it.
Are you saying no protest has ever worked to affect change?
That’s obviously not what @bassturd is saying. What a ridiculous take. Protests don’t usually generate revenue for the thing they’re protesting. This is like protesting starbucks by buying starbucks coffee everyday but making them write “starbucks sucks” on your cup.
This is more the equivalent of “vote with your wallet” . And, a boycott is a protest. But if you engage with the site, even if it’s just to complain, they still get paid. And if they get paid, the protests are meaningless.
Spez loves this user engagement.
For real, if you want to hurt Reddit, keep using Lemmy
Overly simplistic take.
Protest ≠ boycott.
Hoping for change vs just giving up.
I don’t understand how it is a protest when if you look up some of the usernames in that pic they make a stand in /r/place then go about commenting and participating in their favorite subreddits like they have always done. So what is the difference when usage remains the same as its been in years pass except they’ve been given a new subreddit to complain in, which is really just another new subreddit to add to their regular rotation of subreddits they had used and continue to use. I wouldn’t be surprised if they use reddit more now.
I gave up. The root of the problem is the need for profitability and that isn’t going away because of any protest.
If I were protesting a store, I’d stop buying their wares.
Reddit has had a good run, but it’s over. It’s been corrupted by money and I don’t think that can be undone. People need to move on, like they did with Digg. Let the product die.
Why are they still there if they are so angry? What I noticed is that people would be ranting on reddit in places like ModCoord or whatever but then be contributing with on topic content in other subreddits like normal. So why are they so mad when they are fine with using reddit normally and are still able to? Seems like so many contradictions of calling for boycotts but then not doing any boycotting when it comes to their favorite subreddits.
That’s why Spez won. He’s smart enough to use their rage to increase their engagement on Reddit by having them obsess over one place, since their actual daily activity on other subreddits is normal.
Why are they still there if they are so angry?
“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” George Carlin
“Yes, let’s fight against it by using it even more”
This seems unhealthy and obsessive at this stage… I’ve been on Reddit for more than 15 years (don’t even remember exactly, my account was 15 years old but I lurked without logging in for a long while before that) so I understand letting go can be hard, but I think it’s just better for your mental health to do so. Don’t ragebait yourself, don’t expect that any protest will work - it will not, and reddit will only show potential investors massive engagement numbers when they propose to infest r/place with ads.
Just give up - that fight is lost, and we can now have our fun here. We couldn’t save Digg before, and we can’t save reddit now. I have moved on and it was actually easier than expected. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone - just don’t engage with reddit and talk to us here!
Is that RIF?
It’s definitely not the Reddit app, just look at how ad-free and well organized the ui is! It does look like rif though
Glad to be a part of the Fuck Spez and join-lemmy.org movement. Join !place@lemm.ee to be a part of this.
Fuck Spez but that little incel rant at the bottom was pathetic.
Wait… RiF is working again??
It completely died on me a couple of weeks ago and wouldn’t load any posts. Tried it just now and it’s working, just not with any accounts.
What’s going on here?
Weird, maybe current usage is under the rate limit?
It’s 10 queries per minute, so I’d have to be literally the only person using it.
I’m not super informed on this, especially because I don’t plan to try it and go back to Reddit, but some folks have figured out how to patch 3rd party apps to use an individual’s API key so you can still use them. I think if you look up Revanced that should get you in the right direction.
Thing is, RiF is working for me again and it’s not patched.
GOSH
Oh hey I recognize that copypasta, I’ve put bits of it into automoderators
Just… Let it go.
