I’m sure it’s not going to last forever as this site grows in popularity but I feel like I can talk about whatever with minimal judgement here (and just overall no anxiety in comparison to everywhere else), just nice vibes all around ^^

I’ve been lurking a bit and I honestly feel the same way. I’m kinda kicking myself for not jumping into fediverse stuff earlier. Only downside is that certain niche communities don’t yet exist but I’m sure they will soon with the influx of people.

It’s frustrating that only admin can create communities, there are so many communities I miss from you-know-where, I wonder how these communities will be created if only the admin are allowed to do it

Users on other instances can create communities! Those options differ from instance to instance. And admins do seem to sometimes approve communities here. Also, this isn’t the exact same as the other site; there’s a reason that the default homepage option is all communities that are local to your instance. You only really need a community if you really need a separate section for that discussion.

As someone from kbin which is connected to lemmy world I have found the threadiverse to be quite chill. Kinda like a cafe.

Yes, I have been a social media lurker just because I felt like there was some nefarious corporate entity trying to profit off my engagement, but it is nice to feel “free” here. Fediverse is the real Web3!

Exactly and I also wondered sometimes “am I even talking to a person here”. So often posts make it feel like they are pushing an agenda rather than a legit discussion.

This community feels a lot more thoughtful than most, doesn’t it? I have enjoyed reading everyones perspective immensely. I try to comment but honestly, I feel like most of the comments are so well thought-out that I don’t have a lot to add. It’s nice.

        Negative, I am a meat-popscicle!

I ticked the wrong box, I thought it was asking if I wanted to be able to see bot posts. I thought it meant like automods and stuff like that

It’s really refreshing. Overall vibes are much more relaxed and open. People feel legitimately excited to help build something again, instead of just lurking and consuming content.

Definitely. I think the fact that there aren’t many people here makes it feel a lot more worthwhile, to a degree. Maybe it’s easier to recognize specific users? Or easier to feel like your perspective will actually be seen. Whatever it is, I welcome it.

Yeah it’s nice and chill here, and downvotes disabled is good, on Reddit the “Reddit hivemind” would downvote people because someone else did even though they were right!

And the crowd of an people feels older, like Reddit was 10+ years ago before it was kids and teenagers.

I’m sure it’s not going to last forever as this site grows in popularity

To me that’s one of the main benefits of having so many instances; even if the traffic gets wild on a couple there will still be smaller instances with different sorts of users.

This is one of the few places on the internet where I actually enjoy interacting with people. Everyone has been really helpful to me especially as a newcomer to the fediverse.

It’s honestly thrilling to see what the fediverse can do. I haven’t even scratched the surface with just using lemmy and mastodon

Same. I don’t lost a lot but I’m happy to comment more because people seem like they genuinely want to talk or get info here. Likewise I’ll read longer comments and articles here (assuming I have time) for the same reason.
