While it would be bad if they were doing the cartoonishly evil thing implied by such complaints (ooh, they’re kidnapping and killing ol’ Scraps!), it is perfectly ideologically consistent to avoid reproducing the exploitation of these beings, shorten their suffering when no other option is available, and otherwise work toward the abolition of domestication as currently practiced.
I live with two dogs, both aging and with rapidly diminishing quality of life. Soon, I will have to decide how dignified their deaths will be, because humans have colonized even death. Yes, this is why spay and neuter and trap, neuter, release programs are so important. We need to also be actively reducing the population of pets while caring for the ones that currently exist as best we can. And sometimes the “best” option is to euthanize, but it is definitely not a decision taken lightly.
