From @MishaalRahman@lemdro.id:
You probably already use Nearby Share to send a bunch of individual files between your devices, but did you know that if you use the Files by Google app, you can send entire folders?
Google updated the Files by Google app to include a Nearby Share button when you select any folder in the app. Tapping the button will initiate Nearby Share with the folder and all the files it contains. The folder structure will remain intact when you transfer it to other devices. In contrast, sharing a folder through something like Samsung’s Files app results in the folder structure being lost so every file within the folder is just dumped into the Downloads directory.
I don’t know when exactly this feature became available through the Files by Google app, but some users report they’ve seen it for a few months. In any case, I hadn’t seen any reports of it online until I posted about it on social media, so hopefully this post is useful for you anyway!
Really wish this were just built into Android instead of being tied to the Files by Google app.
I also really wish there was a Linux integration
KDE connect is pretty good for that. May not be as fast though.
KDE Connect can send folders without zipping them?
I’ve been glancing at Zorin OS again and Zorin Connect caught my eye but I haven’t played with it yet. If you’re familiar with it, is that just as comprehensive as KDE Connect?
Same thing different branding. Also there’s GS Connect for Gnome which is again the same.
also tip: KDE connect can integrate stuff from your android phone into Windows/Linux like a fucking dream. it’s been a while since I’ve used a cable when I have to transfer files between my phone and pc…
it’s not just file sharing either. clipboard sharing, notification, media controls, remote input, slideshow cursor, you get the idea right… it’s too useful. and it’s crazy to me that there’s no inbuilt solution from google yet

IIRC, that is literally just a skinned KDE Connect lol. Probably even just a name change. Never used Zorin, but this is what I remember either DistroTube or Chris Titus saying.
doesn’t zorin charge you for features that others like Kubuntu hand out for free?
I don’t think I’m ever going to install it on my machine
Here I am still sending things to myself via slack email or WhatsApp, like a complete Neanderthal

You don’t have to be on the same network. It uses WiFi Direct for files.

Yeah, so you can’t share with Pc that doesn’t have WIFI card.
If the PC uses Ethernet then you have to be in the same network, yes.
I’ve tried it on my PC which doesn’t have Wifi or Bluetooth and it doesn’t work. The nearby share app just refuses to work on PC and the integrated windows version doesn’t detect any device.
The only way to do it is to use KDE connect and be on the same network using ethernet.
It works 1 way, phone > PC. In order for it to be 2 ways the PC needs at least Bluetooth
Yeah. Kinda a PITA tbh. Would be great if they added it.
Do you need to be signed into an account in the device you are sending it content to in order to use the wifi direct feature?
Ofc no lol can you imagine that!
Good old trusty usb cable still one I can rely on at least.
Hope it finds its way to every other file explorer
