The comics establish Heavy’s dad was a counterrevolutionary, except because of the game’s timeframe they have to also establish he was a “counterrevolutionary” in 1941

That was it, thank you-- it’d been years since I last paid attention to the comics, so I couldn’t quite remember how that all shook out
In hindsight that might be the same flavor bit as Soldier thinking he’s fighting in World War 2 the more I mull it over
IIRC he fought in France well into the 50s.
It’s supposed to be set in 60s-ish setting under the pretense of mercenaries fighting each other for cold war reasons. It’s not all that surprising.
